I had been eyeing the XSP-1 for months (soon after my XPA-2 purchase). For the last year I have been using my McCormack Micro Line Drive as my preamplifier and had been happy with it except for its one flaw (dual volume pots). No matter how hard I worked at adjusting the dual volume pots that would turn in unison, I could never get my balance perfect (and with Magnepans that to me defeats the perfect soundstage). Prior to using the McCormack MLD I used the XDA-2 straight into an XPA-200 (great balance but sound was on the thin side). Well, Now I have my XSP-1 and I am truly impressed with this unit. Volume balance is dead nuts on! Perfect soundstage! I am running direct (no tone) via my Cambridge Audio 651C CD player (Audioquest Black mamba2 RCA's)and the bass and treble extension is perfect too, natural with a rich mid range. I have yet to test out the built in headphone amp with my HiFiman HE-400's. So far I think the XSP-1 is a great bargain! Attachments:

Your findings echo mine. The XSP-1 works really well with an XDA-2. Direct, the sound is a little thin. The XSP-1 tends to make the soundstage more solid and real sounding. Nice setup! Happy listening
