I got my 8100 all set up and am having issues getting 5.1 to work. I'm not getting any sound from the back speakers. I've tried several solutions/formats with no luck. I'm using my PS3 as a Blue-Ray/DVD source. Settings in the PS3 are set up correctly as I had no issues with my old receiver.
Any thoughts??

Did you connect the speakers to the surround output? The back channels are for the 7.1 format and not for 5.1.

I followed the user manual:
3. Speaker Outputs (7)
Connect up to seven 4 ohm or 8 ohm speakers to these outputs.
Note: The Fusion 8100 can be configured for either 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound operation. If you
configure the Fusion 8100 for 5.1 channel operation, use the FL, FR, CNT, SL, and SR speaker
outputs (and NOT the SBL and SBR outputs).

To clarify, I am using the outputs SL and SR for the rear speakers.

Are you sure the speakers are working? Maybe try as a test to connect the back speakers to the front output.

Speakers are working, when performing the "noise test" they register loud and clear.

When playing a Blue-Ray/DVD that is formatted for 5.1 I am unable to select a "Mode" on the 8100 that would accommodate. Only options I am able to access are Direct, Stereo and All Stereo. Thought of running a Optical cable from PS3 as well as the HDMI......seems like overkill?

Are you using the correct audio channel on the BR/DVD?
I don't have an 8100 so I can't help you with the setup. There must be loungers around owning a 8100 knowing the setup better.

I am or I wouldn't be getting picture or any sound. Is there a setting somewhere that allows the Fusion 8100 to select the appropriate audio setting automatically?

Had the same problem with my external OTA HDTV tuner. With an HDMI cable I got video right but only stereo sound. Had to add an optical cable to get 5.1 sound. Same HDMI cable works fine with my BD player and my Roku.

Same HDMI cable works fine with my BD player and my Roku. Im thinking this is what I'll have to do as well.......Still no surround sound after using the suggested settings from the technician. Here is the template that was suggested: PS 3 settings Video Settings: BD/DVD upscaler normal Video output format Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Cinema Video 1080p 24Hz Off Dynamic range Off BD/DVD Audio out Bit stream Display settings: Video output HDMI (just) 1080p Audio Auto Cross Color off RGB fullrange (full)* Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Supper white off Deep Color (auto)* Sound Settings: Audio output auto Audio Multi-output off

Okay good luck. Except for also making sure you have PS3 audio multi out OFF (which will limit HDMI out to 2-ch only), I am out of ideas.

Need more detailed feedback than still no joy. Need to start troubleshooting before the cable. What format is coming out of the PS3? Myself I suspect the problem is GIGO. Make sure the PS3 is setup to, and actually is, sending multichannel PCM to your receiver first. forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=683326&postcount=1

I have the Fusion, it will tell you what type of audio it is detecting provided you have Setup > Option > OSD Pop Up is "All Operational". Or you can hit Display on the remote... what does the OSD say? Do all speakers work in All Stereo Mode? If the OSD says Stereo or Neo, or All Stereo, it is not receiving the right audio from the PS3. Change the HDMI cable. Try optical or coax, whichever the PS3 has and set the PS3 to use it. Match all those settings like: www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/1491348-official-emotiva-umc-200-thread-5.html#post24430138Make sure that Dolby D isn't set to stereo. What Version Firmware? Setup > Version. You might try Setup > Load Default (You will loose any custom settings you have made). Jim
