Watching the movie Fury last eve.. Most likely too loud but feeling the impact of the explosions was awesome.. About -10 on the Marantz dial.. Got a vertical line of red lights on the back right channel and it stayed mute until I performed the "turn it off and back on" trick.. Anyone else experience this or know what it indicates other than the obvious it went into protection ..
Only guess is that I might have a wonky speaker connection as the back rear channel is behind the couch up against the wall. .. Could have crossed...
Having finished a bottle of red I put myself to bed rather than mess about.
Cheers Joe

The protection on our amps will trip for a variety of reasons. Any sort of loose connection or short on either the speaker cable or the input interconnect can do it (especially loose speaker cables and crunchy grounds on the interconnects). However, it can also be tripped if the amplifier goes into clipping, or if the speaker itself is simply overdriven (when you drive a voice coil out of its linear range, you get a jump in the load impedance, which the amp sees as a fault of sorts). As long as it only happens when you play it "too loud", maybe it's just a hint to play it just a tiny bit lower Watching the movie Fury last eve..
