Based off of the equipment in my signature, it's obvious that my speakers are the limiting factor in my home theater setup. I know this is a highly subjective question but as I save up to upgrade my speakers, are there any recommendations based off your previous experiences and is there a speaker setup that I should be striving for with the XMC-1/XPA-5 combination?

What will potentially be your budget for speakers? What is the size of your room? Does your room has any acoustic treatment?

What are your listening preferences? Are you theater or music driven?

Listening will be almost exclusively movies/home theater. Budget will be around 4k for the front channels in a basement roughly 10x16. No acoustic treatments as of yet.

Do you listen at reference? Are the speakers out in the open or hidden behind a screen?

Hmm.....4k for front speakers would afford me a new pair of Klipsch Cornwall III's. Beautiful speakers with lots of range, nicely afforded bass and horn accuracy.

I wouldn't be listening at reference all that often. The speakers would be out in the open.

I get it...isn't there a guy on here that swears by Bose? In certain applications, I think Bose is okay but I was seriously trying to figure out what direction I should be leaning. Looking at your signature, I was thinking about going Paradigm all the way around since I have a bit of experience with that brand. Others I am contemplating are B&W and Revel. What say you?

Love my 'sigma!!!! I had a Monitoe CC-390 &hit was a beast, finally went all out with Studio 7.2 Not looking back. i was using Bose 901s for my front heights in a 11.6 system, may do something like that in a dedicated HT room.

Which type monitors you have, as you can see in my signature , i have paradigm monitors 7 all around and matching timbre ceiling speakers. Based on many dirac readings, there wasn't much curve correction in my accoustically uncorrected room. In my own opinion the monitor paradigm speakers have great value for the money! Mel

They're roughly 10 year old Paradigm speakers (I think in the cinema series). I might pull the trigger on some Revel F208s at a pretty good deal. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Would 3k be a good deal for some mint Revel F208s? Or should I take my chances bidding on some mint rosenut Paradigm Studio v.5s? Are these speakers comparable?

I think the 'mint" speaker isn't necessarily a good deal but the correct price. Go Tekton Pendragons.

Emotiva Pro Stealth 8. Spend the rest on a very decent pair of subs (not "stereo subs", but dual subs individually EQ'd in Dirac, i.e. following a strategy that is recommended by Todd Welti / Earl Geddes) and a very decent room acoustic treatment strategy, so that you will be able to actually hear very clearly just how very decent the Stealth 8 really is.
