I had a problem today with my iMac-dc1-rogue Sphinx set up. The sound that came out was low garbled with static and hissing. ;This happened both with opt and usb out from the Mac, and using iTunes and audirvanna and on internet radio. Also the dc1 was reading 32 not 44 on some cd tracks I burned into iTunes.
Finally, I solved it by turning the dc-1 to standby and turning it off with the back switch, then restarting.
Does this sound more like a developing problem with the dc-1 or did I create some sort of current loop interfering with the Mac dac connection? Any chance it could caused by having both optical and usb connections between the dc-1 and the Mac?

Usually not since you use one or the other on a computer at any one time for a given device. This case a DAC. Since Optical and USB are 2 different circuits too, I doubt you did anything to cause that. Is it possible the driver set for UAC 2 support, and SPDIF management is not happy in the Mac? Possibly. The interesting question would be if you only one or the other without the other plugged what does it do. When you Reboot the Mac what does it do? Lastly, do you have an AV Receiver with SPDIF optical input. Does it work okay. Do you have AV Receiver that may support streamed audio content too? Curious.
