So I got my XMC-1 yesterday and set up my inputs using HDMI.
Everything works and sounds great using my XPA-5 amp. However, when I don't need the amp and I turn it off, I expected the sound our of my TV from my Mac Mini or my Roku 3. There is no sound unless I turn on the amp.
This used to work with my previous UMC-1. The HDMI would pass the sound to the tv and when I wants to use the amp all I had to do was to turn down the volume on the tv.
How can I get that to work? I looked through the manual but could not find anything helpful.
Enabling HDMI CEC did nothing.

That's perhaps the most helpful answer I've ever seen on the lounge.

You need to enable Video on Standby as Foggy1956 said. Let everyone know how you have things hooked up. That will help.

Thank you all for your help. After you told me about video standby, I caught the part about the audio being passed through HDMI.
I must have been tired yesterday when I read the manual. It just did not click in my brain that video standby would behave this way. Now when I looked at the explanation with fresh eyes and your helpful suggestions, things became much clearer. Here is what I did to solve this.
1. Go to Setup advanced menu and navigate to Standby. 2. Enable video standby. 3. Powered down and back up gain. 4. Now when it goes into standby after boot up, I switch the inputs to my Roku and MAc Mini and.. Voila! sound comes out of the TV.
Dealing with the power consumption.
SO now I turn off the back switch during sleeping hours. No watts used. In the morning I turn it on and it boots, then video standby. I watch Roku normally. WHen I am ready to leave for the day, I turn it off in the back. No watts used.
WHen I come back from my day, I turn it on and turn on XPA-5. Blast music whilst I clean the kitchen and prepare dinner.
Musica bliss.
Thanks again everyone.
