I just received a new XSP-1 Gen 2 and haven't even set it up yet as I received it at work. For anyone having experience with these preamps, is there anything I need to know? For instance does it have a burn in period before sounding it's best and if so how many hours is it? I'm surprised at the weight of the box, it feels like there's an amp in there! But that's one of the things I love about Emotiva besides the sound. You can't beat over built gear.

I agree. For me it's not so much burn in as warm up. I leave my equipment on and I find the sound improves...the most after like a day. I don't have any specific thoughts to the XSP-1 though. My observations are more with their DACs and amps.

I called emo when I got it and they told me that with this pre-amp if there was a burn in period it would be about 16 hours.

I recommend you burn it in by connecting it, plugging it into power, and listening to music. It will sound great right away.
FYI, I am a former XSP owner. I just replaced it with an XMC.

Just plug it in and rock out! Mine worked right out of the box - it sounds the same today right now as it did the first time I started it up. There is nothing to burn in. Except maybe your ears.

Well I have it plugged in and am listening to the first disk, Bob James 'Grand Piano Canyon' and WOW! This preamp is smooth! The USP-1 is no slouch and I remember hearing things on my disks I'd never heard before when first using it, but this is a whole new level. I'm hearing more ambiance of recorded space and the piano just sounds so real. I'll have to get used to looking across the room and not having a little dot on the volume knob to tell me approximately what level it's set at, but I'll get used to going by numbers. The finer increments in volume adjustment are a godsend. I'll report back after more listening.

I just got one last week and think it has the blackest/silent noise floor I've ever experienced. DEAD QUIET ! Great phono section, too. I'm not too keen on the volume knob system; but that's just me.
