I'm skeptical of anything claiming to perfectly neutralize colorations in the physical world using digital technology! It's a Mc Guffin. Audio is simply too complex for DSP systems to perfectly compensate. Now I don't deny they must have something startling.

I'm skeptical of anything claiming to perfectly neutralize colorations in the physical world using digital technology! It's a Mc Guffin. Audio is simply too complex for DSP systems to perfectly compensate. Now I don't deny they must have something startling. I'm not so sure that it IS a McGuffin - The speakers don't try to compensate for ROOM colorations. Instead, they use their DSP to compensate for the sound of the horns. In other words, the DSP has been used to compensate for the phase and frequency anomalies introduced by the horn coupling to the room air. This is a MUCH simpler task than trying to deal with the speakers' environment. And, from the TAS review, it seems that the maker has been startlingly successful. Imagine the Klipsch LaScalas that you heard. Now imagine them with the neutrality of your Axioms, but still with the dynamics of the Klipsches... That WOULD be something special, and if Avantguard has achieved it, I'd like to hear it! Would I part with $25K for them? My initial answer is "no." BUT...

Avantgarde's web site doesn't list their dealers. Therefore, I have no idea of who carries them or where to go for an audition. Idiotic marketing, if you ask me... You have to notify Avantgarde that you're interested, and what model - THEN (and only then) will they let you know what dealer is closest to you. They say it's to prevent customers from playing one dealer against another for a better price. I say it's "losing touch with reality." Oh well - If I really want to hear the speakers, then I'll have to do it Avantgarde's way. I'm not likely to find a pair on CraigsList or at yard sales...
I still think it's a stupid way to sell.
