Most people are familiar with impedance. Many more have heard of reactance, the measure of Capacitance or Inductance of a speaker. When reading tests done by Stereophile Magazine and a few others, the 'in the lab' folks will measure impedance and reactance and present it, usually on a single chart with 2 lines. One line represents impedance and the other shows phase data. Both lines are plotted against frequency. A novel way to present this data with a SINGLE line is called a 'Smith Chart'. Here is a link to an article about the Smith Chart and how it makes sense of impedance / reactance data of a speaker using a SINGLE line on a chart. I personally like this presentation since it shows how difficult a speaker is at a single glance and conveys other information, as well. www.hometheaterhifi.com/technical-articles/technical-articles-and-editorials/a-secrets-technical-article/page-2.html
