I own a Sherbourn C12 and I am really interested in venting the hot air out of the back of the unit and through some hoses that lead out of my equipment closet. Since the C12 has been discontinued, does anyone know how I could DIY the H10 kit that once sold with the C12?

Hello my friend!, I had looked into it one time and believe there are different diameter flex hose that can be had at any of the big box hardware stores, ie,,,,,Lowes, Home Depot etc. Best bet would be to take the unit with you. I had decided to not bother because the heat was not enough to warrant the effort.
Please let me know what you end up with/doing. Thanks in advance,
novisnick

Hey novisnick. I've never really paid much attention to the tubing, so I'll have to take a look and see what is available. My biggest concern is how to attach it to the C12 and I assume the foam insert to block the front exhaust was also included with the H10 package... my C12 didn't come with a foam block, just the open cell filter. I'll take a look at the store tomorrow when I pick up a few other things and report back what I find out.

Cut a piece of cardboard or something similar to block the airflow. I saw some tubing that had twisted rings in it, it should just twist into the hole/opening. Duct tape works wanders!!

I have an entire kit in it's box waiting for installation. I've read from others that have hooked up the vent kit that what has worked well was using a piece of swimming pool vacuum hose connected with automotive hose clamps. I'm sure there are other suggestions, but this one stuck with me because we have a pool and I replaced the vacuum hose last year. So I've got about 100' of it to use when it comes time to install.
Good luck; I'm sure you'll come up with something easy and workable!
Cheers!
Chuck

I bought some flexible hose at Lowes that was just a tiny bit loose fitting so I wrapped a bit of the aforementioned duct tape around the end and it worked fine.

Thanks for all the input guys. I hope to find some flex hose tonight at the store.
After looking closer my biggest concern is the replacement for the solid foam that blocks the front vents. That will be seen through the grill of the C12. I don't want it to look like some hack DIY job. I'll check out options and maybe even a solid piece of gray/black styrofoam or solid insulation can be found.
Once I have something working I'll post pics and let everyone know what I found. I also thought I'd email Emo just in case they have a kit lying around in the warehouse. Doubtful, but there is a chance!

stads77 - I would like to stay away from cardboard to block the vents. Anything that could dry out and warp as easily as cardboard is not something I want in my electronics. I decided to take a piece of 5mm thick oak veneered plywood and stain it black. I used small metal strips on the back of the plywood to ensure it would never bend. I cut it to the exact size of the open cell filter that was in the front panel. It turned out ok. I don't love because in direct light you can see the grain of the wood, but it will do. It's better than piping the hot air from the XPR-2 into my theater room. The rear port hole openings are best served with 1 5/8 inch diameter flex hosing. I was in a hurry after work to get home and beat the rain and wind that was forecasted to work on another project, so I didn't have much time to search around Lowes to see what options they had. What I did find at Lowes will require some sort of DIY rig to allow the tubing to fit the exhaust hole. After some online research, I found this, which appears would be a perfect match (size-wise) 1 5/8 inch dairy hoseI will likely spend some more time this weekend looking to see what Menards and Home Depot have to offer and then I will make my final selection and install.

Hi deewan,
In case you haven't found a solution yet. I have a Pentair Kreepy Krauly pool cleaner. It connects to the pool skimmer via 4 foot hose sections. They are a spiral ribbed hose that I found if you cut off one of the connector ends, screw into the C-12 vent holes very securely. I think you can buy individual sections at most pool supply stores.

Thanks @nottheherbie. I'll try swinging by one of the local pool shops this week or searching and purchase online.

That's it. Just cut off the connector on the end and screw it into the opening. It creates a nice tight fit without having to use duct tape.

Update: I found two hoses that work. The first was at Lowes and was the a Spa hose that is two tone blue. I think the cost was about $3.29 a foot. I think this hose was likely the best fit, but the concern I had was the inside of the hose was ribbed and would have caused wind resistance. Instead of hose a spa hose I found at Home Depot. UPC is seen in a picture below. What I liked was the inside was smooth(er), but the hose was not very flexible. The hose fits well in the C12, but needed some trimming on the outside of the hose to make a snug fit. My hoses are about 5 feet long and I have been monitoring the air flow at the end of the hoses. So far I can tell it is outputting heat, but there isn't much air flow. Sooooo, I may try to shorten the hose length.
