I suspect there are few lounge members that have been in my predicament. I am subscribed to TIDAL for its 16/44 music streaming service. While I have been very satisfied with TIDAL overall, my main gripe with it has been that it doesn't have a remote app. I have a small PC dedicated to digital music playback and until recently have had to use MS remote desktop to control TIDAL on my PC (not exactly a smooth, user-friendly experience). All I needed was a simple app that would allow me to control music playback via my Android phone or tablet.
I am happy to say that I have found a solution that satisfies my needs! The app is called Bubble UPnP. By using this app in conjunction with Bubble UPnP server software installed on my PC I can stream TIDAL from my phone to my PC and use Foobar as my music renderer. I know, it's not exactly a true "remote app", but from my experience thus far it feels just like one even though I am technically streaming music from my phone or tablet. One of the advantages of this system is that Bubble UPnP server (Java applet) does more of the "heavy lifting", meaning that less work has to be done by my phone/tablet. Also, I like that Foobar can be used as the renderer, as the rest of my music (non-streaming) is played back through it in WASAPI mode.
For those who are interested in trying this, the components you will need are:
1. BubbleUPnP app on all devices that you want to stream from
2. Bubble UpnP server installed on PC
3. Foobar2000 with "UPnP/DLNA renderer, server, control point" extension installed
Basic steps to set it up:
1. Once BubbleUPnP is installed on your phone set up TIDAL within it (it will ask for your login information)
2. Install BubbleUPnP server and renderer software (Foobar in my case, but others could be used)
3. Configure BubbleUPnP server as needed
4. Configure Foobar UPnP extension as needed (set up for bit-perfect streaming in my case)
5. In BubbleUPnP app on phone select Foobar2000 as renderer
6. Under "Cloud" select TIDAL and navigate menus to artists, albums, playlists, etc.
I know I'm not going in to a lot of detail here, but I thought I would share this first to get people started, if anyone is interested. It's worked really well for me. The mobile app is really well done and easy to use. I really have zero complaints. I have Remote Desktop running on my phone and tablet just so I can configure things without peripherals. I can also shut down my PC if it won't be in use for a while. If you do shut down your media PC often I would recommend you consider adding BubbleUPnP server and Foobar to the startup programs. This is how I have it running and it's great!
Hope this is helpful to someone on the lounge. Feel free to ask any questions and I will try to answer them as best I can. Does anyone else in the lounge use this app?
Also, I'm inserting some screenshots of the app just to show the nice layout and some of the features.
Enjoy the music!
