So my wife wants a sliding barn door on our HT. the issue I am dealing with is, she wants one, 5' wide door. I will put 2 30" doors together to acheive this. The question i have is how to join the doors together to make one. I have been thinking about putting flat bar at top and bottom on the edge side with holes drilled into them to attach to the door to kkep them aligned. Any other thoughts, ideas or suggestion?

Elmers Wood Glue? If your doors are standard interior "hollow core" doors, then the only place that they're solid is at the edges & maybe where the knob goes.
Rabbet & Dado? Would look nice...
Slap them together any which way (even with slanting power screws driven flush) & cover them in fabric. The fabric hides a host of things & also is available in just about any pattern or color you want. Get tired of the finish? Easy to re-cover.
Want to get fancy - Cover them in leatherette!
Put a frame around the edge & make it look like a giant picture.
Get giant posters & cover them with spray-glue - mount the posters & when they get dingy, replace them with new ones (spray-glued directly over the old)
Invite the neighborhood kids to come over - give them lemonade & spray paint cans, & let them be creative! Punk look!
HOW the doors go together is easy - Deciding how you want them to look may take more time! LOL
Enjoy the project.

I think she is leaning towards me using wanescoting and makeing a "shaker" style barn door. It would look good in the house since its a ranch style house. I will bring up the fabric idea though, I like that.

Sometimes rustic & modern can match surprisingly... Fabric is easy & (relatively) inexpensive - Especially if your source your textiles from thrift shops & yard sales. Less selection, but less price too.

You anticipated my suggestion: Build your own door! :-)

So I spent all day Saturday making this. Now comes the fun part, sanding, staining and a lot of clear coats. Attachment Deleted
