big ego came in saturday,
today was the first day to try it out with my grado headphones. to my ears at the moment it sounds as good as my dc-1 headphone out. maybe i will hear a difference over time, but my initial impressions is that this is a real winner. i do not have hi-res files yet …..but this is going to motivate me to get some and the appropriate apps to play them.
let me know if any of you have a preference for one over the other.

The eGo is mighty impressive to my ears, too.
Foobar is free but a little trickier to configure and you must install plugins for certain capabilities such as playback of DSD (DSF) files. The plugins are free, too. Jriver costs 50 bucks but does a whole lot more. I would suggest to start out with Foobar and whatever plugins you may need. A good source of a varied selection of some Hi-res files would be Superhirez.com.

I just received my Big eGo on Saturday. Plugged it into my Macbook Aire and used it to drive my inner ear Etymotics. These are notoriously hard to drive phones. Directly out of an ipod they sound like a wind-tunnel. Used the eGo with a good portable amp and was blown away by the upgrade. The phones sound tight, controlled, and with deep and articulate bass. The Big eGo is wonderful, light and very musical even at 44htz. Highly recommended. You will love it.
