I'm starting this thread so the Ego's dac owners can share how their ego's perform with their headphones and if they need extra power from a more powerful amp.
I will start with mine:
BIG EGO Audio Technica ATH-M40x - Excellent Beyerdynamic DT990 600 Ohm version - Perfect for normal volumes but needs an amp for higher volumes Hifiman HE-400 - Perfect for normal volumes but needs an amp for higher volumes

My experience with Sennheiser HD600's is that for casual listening it's fine, but there is a need for an amp at higher volumes.

My experience with both Sennheiser Hd700 and Hifiman He-500: The Big Ego sounds pretty clean, musical, and relatively transparent, but, unfortunately, they also sound somewhat under-driven, as compared to, say, my Geek Out 1000, which drives the two HP's with a lot more authority... My feeling is that the Big Ego needs the help of a more powerful outboard amp in order to compete fairly with the GO 1000, and to make all its DAC's qualities shine in all their sonic glory...
To be fair, I was not expecting too much from the Amp section of the BIG EGO when I bought it... My intention was always to hook it up to an external amp, which is why I chose the Big Ego over the Small one... Talking about external amplification, the mini-x A-100 can be one great companion to the BIG EGO in a Desk top rig, if you have relatively difficult to drive cans, and if you do not mind using speaker taps.
