I have been using my XMC-1 for about the last month or so. I don't have my main speakers ready to go yet so I have been primarily using the XMC-1 in standby mode passing audio to my television (essentially the XMC-1 is acting as an HDMI switcher only right now). Occasionally, maybe 10% of the time, I will fire up the XMC-1 and play music or audio through some built in speakers throughout my house. In either case (standby or on) the XMC-1 freezes at least once, and usually several times daily (this has been happening since I started using it, I have just been trying to put up with it). When I say it freezes I mean that it will no longer respond to power on/power off commands, it will no longer change inputs, and the menu is inaccessible or, at best, very, very sluggish. When this happens, the XMC-1 continues to pass through audio or output audio to the amplifier if it was doing so prior to the freeze. If it is frozen on startup of an activity then it will not start outputting audio. It is very difficult to predict when this will happen. Sometimes it is when I first fire everything up for the day, sometimes it is after several hours of use. The unit never feels particularly hot (again, it is usually doing nothing more than passing through HDMI) and opening my AV rack and opening up additional space above and below the XMC-1 makes no difference. The only thing that seems to help is turning off the toggle switch on the back of the processor. It always happens again, of course, but it seems to reset things to normally functioning... Until it happens again that is.
Anyone else experiencing this? Has anyone found a solution to this?
Of course, I will call Emotiva tomorrow to see if I need to return it. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how you resolved it.

By freezing, do you mean it stops responding to the remote control? If so, I'd suggest reseating/replacing the controller batteries. Does it respond to front panel controls?

I use a Harmony Ultimate Home but have tried with the stock remote and the physical buttons on the front of the XMC-1. I also forgot to mention that it is also unresponsive to changing the volume when this occurs, again both through the remote and the dial on the front.

Backup your settings, do a factory reset and then a firmware reload/ reinstall and then reload your settings... This is what I'd try.. I'd try a "factory reset" before anything.

The freezing just happened again as I double checked the firmware Any nearby source of potential RF interference? Random RF interference might possibly cause your XMC to lock up. T-

Nothing outstanding (just the usual stuff that is connected for home A/V: HTPC, Tivo Roamio, Oppo 103D), My wifi router is in the same room. All my equipment is hard wired via a separate ethernet switch. Everything is plugged into a CMX-6. I previously had a UMC-200 hooked up down here and didn't have any issues.

Any cfl lights...these can cause IR interference. Try it in a different room or with everything else off. Even plasma tv' scan cause interference if they are old or screen filters are not up to scratch

All of the lights in the room are LEDs (Philips Hue) and the plasma is the newest it could be (last batch of Panasonic VT60s before discontinuation). Fingers crossed, but so far since I reloaded v3.0 firmware it hasn't happened again. It is too early to conclude this fixed it but that may have been the solution.

Ya, total bummer. I have been putting off dealing with this for the month I have been using this thing. A bit disappointing though. I guess I don't have good luck with emo processors. I had to send my UMC-200 back for a broken HDMI board after a few months of ownership. Now the XMC-1 is faulty .

I have had this happen once using a Harmony 900. I think it happens when you send too many IR commands to it one after the other and the XMC-1 gets confused.
Does it freeze up when using the Emo remote? Does it freeze up using the front panel buttons (not using the remote at all)?

In fact, this almost always occurs after there has been time without any remote input. This happened at least daily for the first week I used the unit with the stock remote only. In fact, when I pulled the XMC-1 out of the box to use for the first time it behaved strangely using the buttons on the front of the unit only. There was a very long delay trying to access the menu to set things up. At first I just thought that is how it was (since I had never used it before). I reset it by power cycling the rear toggle switch even after that first use and it cleared things up temporarily. This is definitely not related to IR input.

I had a plasma set that would sometimes drive my UMC crazy without any remote input at all. If that works, you can leave it off and wire the Ultimate's hub directly to the rear input of the XMC.

I had a plasma set that would sometimes drive my UMC crazy without any remote input at all. If that works, you can leave it off and wire the Ultimate's hub directly to the rear input of the XMC. This is not a crazy notion, i had a simular problem with my ERC-2 and Samaung TV. Works just fine now!!
