someone convince me on why I need to buy this and stop using my playstation 3 At this point just sit and wait for a 4K player from Oppo, unless your not going there.

You want to wait! HDMI 2, 4K tvs are already here. Blu ray 4k is hot on its heels. The future is 4k. Having said that the Oppo 105 does incredibly good at blu rays. The PS3 (which I've had) doesn't hold a candle to its video quality.

If it is going to be for used for just video then save your money. The Oppo 105 is not $800 better. Now if you plan to use it for two channel too to take advantage of the internal dacs then you can decide if it is worth the investment.

The 105 has a much better DAC and with a external hard drive you can store and run the tunes thru the Oppo where as you can't with your Game Station

someone convince me on why I need to buy this and stop using my playstation 3 I don't understand why people would want to spend so much on a bluray player. A 100$ samsung player will give ya the same dang HD picture.... and if the samsung breaks who cares it was only 100$ unless you are rich and like over spending I would pass on the oppo

Now with that said, I use an oppo 103 because of the home network streaming capability, the second to none video upconversion for regular dvd's and 720p content I have on my network media pc. I've used the cheaper alternatives and yes they provide the same bluray video quality, but I haven't found one that has all the "extras" of the oppo.

+1 on the 103, it's a great network player as well as physical media

If you're mostly watching blu-rays and what not.... then wait. The Criterion Collection (Google it if you don't know what it is) used to use the PS3 as their reference test player. If that fits your needs... then wait till you have different set of needs...

Yep, I am on the 103 train too. Why blow all the dough if you all you are listening too is the Processor Preamplifier you have already. If you want Darbee, a personal choice, you could do that with the 103. I think the 103 is a great bargain with honest performance. The 105 is a bit of a not so sure the extra money couldn't be better spent elsewhere on the system. 4K is a reality sure, but even if you stay with 2K, your money could get you all sorts of stuff that might be more useful to you. What you select again, a personal decision. Convincing you to do something that you are not sure about on your own, conjures questions was/is it a good idea after all. Just my 2 cents.

someone convince me on why I need to buy this and stop using my playstation 3 I own one and I can't even convince myself that it was right to do... That said, if you do like the SABRE DAC sound and plan to us it, great. And, some (boomzilla) have used it as a stand along multichannel pre/pro...so you can avoid having 2 boxes if you use that capability of the 105. Otherwise, I agree with the others...wait for the next gen, and even then...if you are not going to use its DAC's, buy a cheaper unit. Mark

Well I would say if you're stuck in the dark ages like me playing shinny Sacd, dvd-a discs and your system is builded around music listening and have the cash laying around, then i woukd try to get a good deal on a used one, or call Oppo to see if they have refurbished unit.
Oh i just popped in a standard dvd, snd it looked amazing on my 64" pdp, the upscaling properties on this device is jaw dropping.

Between the two 103 and 105s since I do have both, on the video side they are exactly alike. For audio the 105 has a better DAC, headphone amp and is smoother

I have my oppo bdp 105 connected to umc-200 via 7.1 analog, two channel analog, and hdmi. I only use the analog inputs from the 105 as I prefer using the ESS sabre reference DAC's for cd's, sacd's, DVD-audio, bluray audio discs, and movies as well. I am definitely music first (both 2-channel & multichannel). I am happy with this purchase and setup. I think it's just a matter of where you choose to put your money when it comes to DAC's and analog circuitry. I have not even taken advantage of the headphone preamp and USB streaming from a nas or other music storage devices.
