Just purchased a new sub.... HSU ULS-15 MK2Hsu just released this updated sub a few weeks ago... Was looking for a high-value sealed 15" sub with XLR connections - so I grabbed it. So far, I love it. Fills my room with clean bass. Movies and music have never sounded so good - and I have yet to re-run my DIRAC setup. As I was hoping, and why I wanted XLR ports, the XLR connection completely eliminated my ground-loop hum (previously only eliminated by expensive filters on my RCA cables...) The fit and finish are superb (I purchased satin black)..... The magnetic grill is super cool - I've never seen one before, and had no idea it had one, so it was a nice surprise! Additionally, it was packaged very well, shipped the day I bought it, and it arrived at my house in perfect condition. If there are people out there looking for a sealed sub, take a look at this one. If you are familiar with Hsu subs, the ULS-15 MK2 was updated by sharing many of the same components with their monster ported sub, the VTF-15H MK2. For the MK2 version, they dropped the wireless connections, increased the power, and lowered the price by a few hundred dollars. Its now only $779. I will definitely be buying another one....

That looks great, and at a very competitive price. Nice to see that they relize we're not made of money. Can't wait for more reviews and some from others that are subaholics!!

Congrats Scubadiver, I think Dr. Poh Hsu is doing some great work. I have been following him since the beginning, had a early Sub of his. The Latest ones are truly amazing products. Value is always in the equation. They sound amazing, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to keep them happy, and look to be made to last for the long haul. I definitely feel HSU Research is one of the great ones for the listening enthusiast out there who needs, and wants a Subwoofer without necessarily the Stack of tall money.

HSU is a very well-respected name in the sub world. I've never had the pleasure of auditioning it but for the price I think you made a great choice and I hope to hear more about it once you get it integrated into your system. Congrats!

I still use my HSU HRSW-12VA subwoofer, purchased back in late 2006, out in my 25x30x9 garage (conditioned space) matted to a pair of Infinity Primus P160's x-over at 80hz through a Harman Kardon AVR-745 and sourced by both a Logitech Squeezebox Duet and Pioneer Elite CD/LaserDisc player. Yup, all OLD stuff and ALL of it is still kicking!!!

Question for me or for ScubaDiver I never did get a second HSU HRSW-12VA subwoofer, however it is doing pretty good out there in the garage. Certainly better than without. Since then I obtained a pair of SVS CS-ULTRAs (w/outboard amp and crossover, and also now quite dated). Waiting for the new Emotiva RMC-1 with it's ability to independently control THREE Subwoofers (or will it be FOUR?). As I'd like to make the switch to Sealed subwoofers, although the SVS PB16 Ultra may change that (more homework to do on that front).

@jadaddabbo - I heard a demo of the SVS PB16 at World Wide Stereo (metro Philly). It was a big demo with SVS big-wigs present. I currently have an old SVS PC-Ultra sub. But the demo underwhelmed me. To me, the SVS sounded "muddy".

Well, with Subwoofers the 'setup' is Oh so important (as is seating position a bit). There is simply no way that the Top of the Line subwoofers from SVS (or HSU) sound muddy. However, I have no doubt that a given 'setup' has it sounding 'muddy' (so many 'setups' do just that, and YES even so called high-end setups).

Hi - do you still have your HSU subwoofer, and are you liking it?
Yes... Still have it. And I still love it... ZERO regrets. Other than acoustical room treatments, it was the best upgrade I've ever made to my theater.
And equally important - I've had no issues with it.
I always planned on purchasing a second, but just not sure I need it.... I really does a great job.
Still might buy it "just to see what happens..." Who knows!

I wound up with two of them myself even though one would have likely been plenty. But the two of them leave nothing to be desired as far as I'm concerned. They are nice sounding, tight and capable of 16Hz in room output. Love 'em.

...Still might buy it "just to see what happens..." Who knows! Do it! I'm up to 3 now. 2 in the 2ch room and 1 in the theater across from my Seaton. These things just bring the boom while still being quite musical. Scott

Curious... When you say "across from my Seaton", did you place the HSU in the rear of the room? Because that's what I was thinking of doing...
(Never had two subs before, so part of the fun of buying #2 would be experimenting w/ room placement.... )

My theater is 19' wide X 36' deep but they sound very good on the sidewalls about 1/3 of the way of the distance from the screen wall. The other position that sounds good is at the 1/3 and 2/3 postion. Every room is unique enough that you'll want to do the sub crawl and see what sounds optimal in your room. Lots of good YT vids on the sub crawl if you aren't familiar with it. Scott Scott

It costs nothing to move your sub around and listen. I find a pair sound best side by side to my main speakers. Every room is different
