similar question different options.
Im connecting my Mac Mini to the XMC-1, for the best 2 channel, how should I connect the two?
I can,
A) USB out to USB in
B) USB Optical converter out to Optical in
C) HDMI out to HDMI in
D) Headphone jack to Optical converter out to optical in
E) have i missed any?
Which gets me the best sound for two channel?

I've never used a Mac Mini so take this with a ton of salt! Personally I;d go with option C and let the XMC do DAC duty. With this option, should you be so inclined in the future, you also leave the door open for video. Just my 2 cents... and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

I had mine set for HDMI for video and HDMI also for audio, now I have it set for HDMI for video and USB for audio and have yet to tell any discernible difference, using HDMI for both audio and video is less cables though

Plug the MacMini headphones output into the XMC-1 analogue input......................that's what you missed not what you should choose Personally I'd go HDMI, then you can do video too. Cheers Gary

I would hope that since my BigEgo has a precision USB interface and low jitter clocks that the XMC-1 would be similarly equipped? In regards to the digital to analogue conversion in an XMC-1 I don't believe that there would be any difference between 2 channel and multi channel. Cheers Gary

HDMI for sources with video and sound. USB for sources with just sound. You can easily have both.

I use Option D, but I'd call it "Mac mini-TOSLink output to XMC-1 TOSLink Input", there's no 'optical conversion' taking place, the signal remains digital until it hits the XMC-1 DAC.

... Im connecting my Mac Mini to the XMC-1, for the best 2 channel, how should I connect the two? ... For 2-channel, option (A), no doubt. If you want to get fancy, add a USB Regen.

Russ If you have a Mac Mini and not a Apple TV like Nick and Myself we just use the remote App to playback our iTunes to the XMC-1, I use HDMI for both audio and video which has worked perfect so far
