Newbie

Hi all, newbie to the lounge here.  I'm from Michigan and have been interested in hifi audio for some years, but it wasn't until recently that I was able to afford anything really nice.  I'm pretty happy with my setup now, choosing speakers has always been the hardest for me as there really isn't anywhere locally to audition things, so it's a lot of reading reviews online and making educated decisions.  I haunt a few forums but this is my first time registering on one.

Welcome to the forum. One area you may try on speakers is the used market. I have done that with great results. You will find you can get some amazing speakers is you take your time.

Ones to consider:

Snells
Vandersteen
Magnepans
Dunlavy
Legacy
Focal

Condition is everything. Take your time and be very picky on price and condition. I own 3 sets of Snells. Recently totally redid my E II's, to include new custom cabinets and internal wiring. Look just like Audio Note speakers now. Also, according to my son in law who does professional mixing in the music industry......"this is the best system you have ever had"

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been doing myself.  I just grabbed a pair of PSB Imagine T's that way.  I'm still waiting for them to arrive.  I've tried a bunch of bookshelf speakers with and without a sub.  Klipsch, Pioneer, Wharfedale; wasn't happy with any of them.  I've come to learn that my hearing is very sensitive, especially to treble.  Had a pair of CS-77a's that I just gave to my Dad for his vintage system.  For me, I feel like I have to find that sound that sort of blends in, so that if I sit in my listening chair I'm not being picky, but just enjoying the sound.

Cool!  Glad to see some other Michigan residents here.  I don't know what part of the state you're from, but how are you enjoying the weather?  Rain, shine, 40 degrees, 70 degrees... welcome to Michigan!

Battle Creek area now. Formerly Walled Lake and Brighton. You have correctly characterized Michigan weather. Although, today is a beauty!!

Very nice out today, 73 and clear where I'm at.  But I suspect the end is coming soon.
