Hello,
I'm thinking of using a couple of Crown XLS1000 amps with my UMC 200 and was wondering if it will work properly? Is there anything special I need to do or will it work no problem? Any info will be appreciated, thanks!

Why would you think they would not work? They should be fine. Some quibble over them being class D, but they should work.

I have not mixed and matched pro/consumer gear and I do not know anyone that has either. Just trying to learn the do's and don'ts or if it even matters?

You can mix pro & home audio gear all day & ive done quite a bit of it , right now we have a pro Marshall 9200 dual monoblock 100 watt tube amp powering a pair of Klipsch Lascalas in our garage with a solid state Mcintosh C-38 preamp & a Dynaco CDV-pro tube cd player as the source . I pull amps in & out of my guitar rigs all the time for little home audio mess arounds , our home theater subs in this house used to be powered with Crown K2 pro amps before we swapped the theater out with all Mcintosh gear . |

I see...there is really nothing electrically different that makes them incompatible. Pro gear may be built more rugged to handle more beating than might occur in homes, and they sometimes have features useful in, say a studio, that might be found a nuisance at home. For example, the Emotiva Stealth speakers have a blue light on the front... Useful in a studio so you know it is powered on...annoying to some in the home because they don't want a blue light on the front of their speakers. Mark |

One thing to keep in mind, most pro amps do not have auto on/off and some don't have trigger on/off. So turning your amps on and off may become a manual process.

I use the Crown XLS2000's and they sound just as good as my old Adcom GFA7705 but with a lot more power. They run cool, the fans rarely come on and when they do I cannot hear them from my listening position 12 feet away. They're also very quiet, i.e. no floor noise that I can detect, even with my ear pressed to a speaker. I've read that might not be the case with the 1000's so you might want to check that out.

I'm using a Crown XLS-1000 with a very transparent sounding B&K P3 stereo preamp and it sounds very good through my song towers. The only problem you're likely to encounter is with high sensitivity speakers that may emit some hiss or buzz.
I previously owned an XLS-1500 and got similar results as I'm getting with the 1000. For most speakers the 1000 is just right. For hard to drive speakers the 1500 or 2000 might be a better choice. Nice thing is the XLS-1000 are going for $159 on Amazon and elsewhere. Best buy in amps today IMO. You can use them in mono mode too. I'm thinking of buying another for my center channel in bridged mode. The only thing missing with these pro amps IMO is a 12v trigger.

How are guys doing with multiples of these, meaning turning them on&off not sure I want more power strips behind my rack than what I already have!

Hey Dan - I have 2 Crown XLS-1000 amps and have an XLS-1500 showing up on Tuesday. I use a smart strip to turn them on and off - the Sherbourn activates the smart strip just fine. Get one with an adjustable sensitivity if you are going to get one. It may cost a few more bucks but are more adaptable than non-adjustable strips. Some AVRs and AVPs use too much power in standby and the strip does not shut off power to the controlled outlets. |

Any amplifier of your choosing will function fine. As long as it is connected by the RCA connection type,which most consumer gear is by the way, and most Pro gear allows RCA as well as Balanced to connect your components of choice. The biggest question once done, what music or movie do you play.
