Just to set that to rest - We will not be going "all Class D" any time soon Emphasis on the "all." Just partial D's......

Class D is the future guys, Face it!!! No doubt EMOTIVA will come out with an extraordinary piece of art into class D amplification scenario. Who wouldn´t like 1000 watts into 4 ohms, stable under 2 ohms for those heavy Magnepans, with the lowest THD available on the market, no heat, no heavy hat boxes, 100% natural uncolored sound?

My impressions on Class D amps: sometimes they sound good, sometimes they don't. It's usually the bass that is hit or miss.

Class D might be the future and because of that I'm very happy that I bought my XPR-1s! Not knocking class D but for the first time in 30+ years I don't have upgraditis. I hope emo comes out with more reference grade amps but just in case my ears are satisfied. Technology will always evolve but there is something to be said about being satisfied and I really value enjoying music and not thinking of "what if I would have bought X?" It's a syndrome I've had for the past three decades and I think that XPR-1s have cured that. Levinson and krell would be nice but I don't feel like I'm missing anything with my amps. With the best class D amps I'm not sure I'd feel the same. Just saying.... Either way I hope Emo continues to make good sounding products for a competitive price point.

I have 3 XPA-1L's in my 7.1 theater today and am seriously contemplating selling my XPA-5 Gen 2 and ordering 4 more XPA-1L's in its place. I love my XPA-1L's I have several items sitting around that I could sell to nearly offset the cost giving me class A to all speakers at lower volumes, tons of flexibility, and tons of power. XPA-5 Gen 2 UPA-700 UPA-200 6 sets of NIB UAW 6.2 bet the xmc 1 would make more noticeable difference in your sound... both would be sweet..

My guess is class G like the legendary NAD 208THX or the new Arcam amps which are very good.

One of the problems of having distributors. Price war between them can be another problem because it can affect the brand. They will need to have strict control on MAP Thats the best part of emo going brick & mortar vs online only , the dealers who dont treat every customer like a whale will be moving volume at prices much lower than buying direct , hopefully emo releases 2 channel products im interested in so i can take advantage of further price cuts via dealers . Sure wish they'd pop out a 200 watt self biasing tube amp & tube pre sometime soon .

Is the power output in class A for the XPA-1L at 4 ohms 70 watts if it is 35 watts at 8 ohms? I did not want to assume the relationship is linear

So it's 17.5 watts for 4 ohms. HOWEVER, it is not putting out half the power. It's 35 watts but when you do the math it comes out to 17.5 watts. This was confirmed by I think Lonnie or Keith.

Don't forget:: There is NOT a 'Brick Wall' between A and A/B. it is a sliding transition. You will NEVER hear it. Keep in mind that even IF you are running 20 watts continuous (pretty darn loud) and still in 'A', you will have maybe 200 to 250 watt peaks which come and go fairly quckly. That's 10db + of 'crest factor'.
