Just wow! Marantz has a winner here with their new AV7702mkII. It's just amazing what it has. I wonder if anyone has compared the sound quality with the XMC-1.
Anyone know if it's fully balanced or just the two front channels like XMC-1?

Uhhhhh I´ll love to read the comparison, especially from someone who had them both and referred off course in sonic terms (for music 2 ch.)

The Marantz looks like a better value on paper: 11 channels XLR, Atmos, DTS-X, Aureo 3D up-gradable, HDAM, Built-in Bluetooth, Built-in Wi-Fi and AirPlay, DLNA, Audyssey Platinum, etc. It's a great value. Specially at lower price than XMC-1.

Indeed. I am also very curious how the 2 channel performance would be. The mkII has just been released, so hopefully we will see some reviews soon. It has more than enough features and connections, but does it deliver where it matters?

the Marantz AV7702mkII is what I plan to upgrade my current HT systems aging Onkyo PR-SC5507 to. it has all the features I want and yes, I do want ATMOS, DTS-X and Auro-3D capabilities should I choose to use them. and since I purchased a UPA-700 to add to my XPA-5, I plan to use them! I do want 7.1.4
for music, I have a dedicated 2 channel system for that, so, my needs focus on the HT aspect of it. I will use it for multichannel music once in a while just like now. the only thing I wish the AV7702mkII had was the dedicated XLR Stereo input that my 5507 has. I use that 2 channel XLR input from my 105's XLR output for 2 channel music when I choose to listen to it from my HT system.
I do like the XMC-1, but, since it currently doesn't support any of the big 3 new codecs, I have to go with the Marantz. I do hope someone will post a comparison review of the two pre-amps mentioned.

I saw the SNR on the Marantz and the XMC-1 blows it out of the water. I checked the SECRETS website for last year model and they mentioned it's build on their AVR platform; hence, suggesting it's more inclined for movies and not for music.

Anyone heard Marantz last year model AV7702? I have last year's 7702. It is fantastic for HT. I also have an 8801 and I prefer it over the 7702 for 2 channel. If you don't need ATMOS or hdmi 2.2, I highly recommend picking up a used 8801 considering how fast the used prices are dropping.

If you need all the bells and whistles then go for it. If not and you really want the best 2ch sound in a HT product, the XMC is hard to beat at 3x the price. I can't do Atmos and can't really go past 5.2 so for me the choice was clear. (and I'm not that sure I want to give up Dirac once I have used it for anything else) But if you have the room for 11 plus speakers, etc and don't really care about 2ch in that space, you can't go wrong with the Marantz. So it really comes down to your specific needs vs which one is "better" than the other.
