Saw this: schiit.com/public/upload/general/sys_lifestyle.jpgThen I saw the current sale; now I want that setup. Is 6S really overkill for a desk? I don't think I need a sub - I'd have to use RCA splitters (something about that bugs me). I'd like "some" good room filling too... Sorry, I know this has probably been beaten to death. From searching the consensus seems like 5 is more appropriate, but I don't know, that 6S is tempting.

The 6s has a bit more bottom end, and depending on your listening fills the room well. I use the 6s in my work area to great effect. Subwoofer will add more bottom and dynamics. A good thing you know.

I've got the 6S in my office as well right now. I don't have any office mates near me so I can play them as loud as I want to. One thing I've noticed, as menionted above, is that the 6 does fill the room very well. They are pretty large speakers for a 10x7 office! The second thing I've noticed is that the speakers have very little "bottom end" when listnening at "background" or just above "background" listening levels. They need a bit of volume before they develop any sort of satisfying low-end. Often times, at least for me, that volume level is much more in the "I'm listening to music right now and focusing on it" volume level rather than the "background, because I'm getting work done" volume level. Again, as the above post said, adding a small sub into the mix may not be a bad idea if you want more low end at lower volume levels.

Well, I got the 6S. Also got the XDA-2 on closeout, $50 more than that little Schiit setup. Huge no-brainer. Balanced outs for the Airmotivs, RCA for that sub, all those inputs. No volume knob, but hey I get a remote and digital display.
I think I did pretty good.

You know what is really crazy is how many will miss the XDA-2 when they are gone waiting too long. This is the best deal in a fully Differential Balanced, Full Rack chassis DAC on the planet. Oh, yeah don't forget about those Ego's too because you get dandy good sound. Stuff them in your laptop bag, and let the tunes go on everywhere you go.
