The UMC 200 is a great little processor/pre amp for the $$$. From the mouth of Dan-
"There is a "baby" 7.1 processor in final development. It has some very cool features that I'm not ready to speak about just now, but it'll be a sweetheart. I predict this one will be a huge success. As a teaser though, it uses a smaller version of the OLED used in the XMC-1 and you have to see it to believe it. Same exact look and resolution, but smaller. It's going to have some very unique and useful features. We have fully functional hardware running on this unit, so its launch is not that far off. Made in Franklin, TN USA"

That sounds great and all, but I don't think it warrants an upgrade for me. I probably won't be upgrading until Dolby Atmos is available at an "affordable" price.

Had a 200, now have a 7030, and both are very good processors. However, the 7030 is pretty bare bones so more bells might be nice!!

Had a 200, now have a 7030, and both are very good processors. However, the 7030 is pretty bare bones so more bells might be nice!! Am in the process of switching my system from Pioneer Elite to Emotiva. Bought an BRAND NEW XPA-2 GEN 2 for the fronts and that is already connected to my B&W 804 mains. Just purchased, and am waiting for, a used (MINT) UMC-200 on eBay for $455 (yes, the going rate) and now need a UMA-500 (or UMA-700 if I can't get a 500) for the center, rears and Patio Zone. Other than eBay....know anywhere I could get my hands on a UMA-500/700? I could go with an XPA-5 but it just will not fit where it would go (too high). Finally, in setting up my profile (joined the Lounge today), where do you list your equipment in your profile set up? And....how do you include photos in the text (if/when needed)? Thanks!!!

Profile-edit profile-personal-signature- will get you to the area to enter your equipment. There is always equipment going up for sale here. Also ebay as you already know and occasionally Audiogon.

Had a 200, now have a 7030, and both are very good processors. However, the 7030 is pretty bare bones so more bells might be nice!! Your take on the differences between the two processors is interesting. When I had the UMC-200 I tried out the room correction feature. I didn't like any part of that so I set it up manually and adjusted my subs to kill the house curve between 45-80hz and it sounded great. I'm on my second 7030 - I didn't realize how flexible it was until I sold the first one and tried to get a Marantz SR5009 to do the same things the 7030 can do. The only thing the Marantz did good was equalize the subs - wouldn't do a pair separately however but no real big deal. The 7030 is the first processor I've owned that will allow you to use a single audio/video input for multiple output paths. This is handy for casual TV watching such as Monday Night Football - I like to listen to music from the HTPC some times. I can use input 1 which is Sat TV - it gives me video and audio over HDMI. I have Sat TV also on input 3 using HDMI 1 input - I get the HDMI 1 video input but with optical 1 for the audio source. I use the same optical 1 for audio input 8 from the HTPC. I don't recall the UMC-200 allowing this. I could not get the UMC-200 or the Marantz to allow pairing one audio source to multiple output paths. Neither one would allow using a single video/audio source in two or more inputs. This is how most processors work and includes an Onkyo PR-SC885 and an Integra DHC-40.1 I owned in years past. Seems like a no-brainer for the electrical engineers to make things work together better. They don't! The 7030 has some limitations when it comes to computers. I connect the HTPC directly to my LG TV - the 7030 does not work well with computer graphics cards - at least the one I have - an NVIDIA GeForce 730 - a decent performer for movies but is not for games. The only resolution that would fill the screen was 1080P - native res for the LG. I would have had to use binoculars! The mouse pointer was hard to see! At any other res I had a bar on top or bottom - or sides - and some times on all four sides. I played with it for 10 minutes and gave up. The 7030 is an excellent 2 channel performer - is very flexible - and sounds great in multi-channel movies. I'll find some reason to swap it out - maybe for an XMC-1 ----------- some day.

The UMC-200 successor, or however Emotiva frames it, has been on mind a lot lately. My hope, which may differ from most, is a pre-pro that sells for well below $1,000 ($700-$800) and my fear is that it will be priced at 50% the XMC-1. As I posted in another thread, my hopes for a successor are as follows:
- 4k support - Improved analog stages (trickle down) - Improved DACs (trickle down) - USB DAC input - Smartphone/Tablet remote capability - Small form factor - Latest surround format support - Volume knob
NO ATMOS, etc.
Many will want Dirac as an option which is a compelling idea but I assume adds substantially to development and QA costs.
I've just been so happy with the minimalist approach of the UMC-200 and how it stands apart from the AVR and Pre-pro market that have surrendered to the feature war.

The eBay seller from whom I just bought my UMC-200 says he bought it on 10/30/13. That leaves almost three years on the factory warranty. Does Emotiva keep track of purchase dates by serial number our will I need some "proof of original purchase?"
Also, the UMC-200 can accept the Bluetooth dongle. Wondering if anyone really finds that a useful feature. I have a 500GB hard drive hooked up to my Oppo with all my music. I like Bluetooth but not sure I can think of a way to use it.

I use the BTM-1 mostly for guests who want to play some music quickly for all to listen. It's also fun at dinner parties where guests take turns playing some selection of music from their phones, some people have the strange tastes in music That's about it for my uses, the Apple TV's do the most playing of music from my collection. Cheers Gary

My Fusion 8100 has Bluetooth built-in and the occasional music streaming from phones is the use it gets too, mostly from my kids.
Although, I must say it is pretty cool to play Sea Battle with my son on phone or tablet and get the sound effects through a proper audio system :-)
