Can someone guide me through setting up tbe ARC between my processor and TV? I have a Sony UHD TV and would like to play audio from the APPS through my processor. Currently, I have the hdmi out from the processor to the hdmi/arc port on the TV. I can't seem to get it to work. The manual isn't much help. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

By way of full disclosure, I don’t have either a UMC or the Sony set, but I’ve dealt quite a bit with ARC and might be able to give you some pointers. I looked on the Emotiva site for the Owners Manual, but it is nowhere to be found (someone PLEASE correct me if it IS there and I missed it). Without the OM I’m flying a bit blind, but here are a few thoughts:\ • It’s obvious, but check to see if the UMC has ARC capability. Products of that age may, or may not have it. • Most, but not all, SSP or AVR models that do have ARC dedicate a specific button on the remote where “ARC” is the default setting. Does the UMC have such a button? • Presuming that it does have ARC, but there is no input select on the remote for “TV” see how you can set “TV” or “ARC” as the audio input for a source on the UMC. The video input in this instance doesn’t matter as the presumption is that you are only using the UMC for audio as the video source is internal to the set via streaming. • Check to see if the TV has any input specifically marked for ARC. In some cases that doesn’t matter, in others it does. • Go into the Audio or “System” setup menu on the TV and see if there is a setting to turn the display’s internal speakers OFF. On some sets you need to do this to activate the ARC feed.
If all else fails, configure an AUDIO input for optical and connect the TV through that. You may still have to turn off the internal TV speakers, however.
Good luck!

The processor is ARC capable and the TV has a port labeled arc.

Ok, so far, so good.
NOW, you need to first configure an input on the UMC for ARC or see if it has a "TV" button. (Without the OM I can't help you there. Is there a link to it anywhere on the site that I'm probably overlooking?)
OR, you need to configure an input for ARC as the audio source on the UMC.
Last, try turning off the internal speakers on the TV.
Good luck!

So, the HDMI/ARC port of the TV has to be connected an ARC configured HDMI input on the UMC-200?

So, the HDMI/ARC port of the TV has to be connected an ARC configured HDMI input on the UMC-200? The HDMI output on the UMC-200 acts as an input as well, but only with ARC capable TV's. It's been a while since I've had a UMC-200 in my home theater, but I was able to get the ARC capabilities of the UMC-200 and my Panasonic flat panels Applications to work together. I don't remember the settings in the UMC-200's GUI(there is a way to assign ARC as an input in the UMC-200 and accept the audio from the TV), but I do remember finding the right settings and combinations of these in my Panasonic flat panel was quite a PITA. Sorry I can't be of more help. I will say that TV boxes such as the Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV have, IMO, made ARC a useless HDMI feature, not to mention these TV boxes are way more robust in their software applications.

So, the HDMI/ARC port of the TV has to be connected an ARC configured HDMI input on the UMC-200? The ARC output of the UMC-200 and the ARC supported input of the flat panel speak back and forth to each other. The configuring of how the UMC-200 accepts the audio portion from the flat panel and has to be configured in the GUI of the UMC-200. So if you mean connecting to one of the actual HDMI inputs on the UMC-200, then no, as the UMC-200 HDMI output acts as an input in this situation. It's all in the settings of the UMC-200 and the flat panel that you are using.

I looked, but may not have seen it, but has anyone mentioned you need to have an HDMI 1.4 cable to access ARC?

The cables, themselves, are not certified for a specific HDMI version. Rather, it is a question of having "standard" or "high-speed" cables. Most of the ones that you would find are the latter, not the former in any case. The signal passing back through an ARC connection is standard PCM so it is not a question of speed.
As others have said, it is an issue of making certain that everything is configured properly. I'd help, but can't find the manual for the UMC-200 anywhere on the web site. Perhaps someone can point me to it?

I ran into a problem with a new Sony tv and a soundbar this weekend. The tv would send sound to the speaker for about 30 seconds and revert back to the tv speakers. When into the "sync" menu on the tv and it gave a list of compatible devices; all Sony. Can you say Proprietary?
