Well I have bought a new sony 850c and will be receiving it soon. My question is should I keep my 200 or move up to the xmc? With the new formats like 2.0a and all the compliances with the new tvs ,I just to make sure it will all work together.I am rather lame with some of this new technology so any help would be appreciated. My setup includes an oppo 103 ,umc 200,xpr3 ,a pair of upa 1 and soon 65xbr 850c.I will consider the xmc if it is best.thanks

Emotiva has a new HDMI board in the works so you would be covered if you got the XMC. If you have nothing that plays 4k then you should be good for a while. Now if you stream Netflix from somewhere other than the TV the new standard may be a problem. I am not sure how you would get audio from the TV to your 200 other than ARC so that may pose some issues. If you have the funds the XMC-1 is a fantastic pre/pro so that would be one way to proceed.

I have my OPPO connected to the XBR65X850C via the HDMI 1 on the OPPO. This allows me to send upscaled 4K information directly to the TV (can't do it through the UMC-200). I then have the OPPO connected to the UMC-200 via the HDMI 2 on the OPPO. This sends audio to the Emotiva. The OPPO is in "split HDMI" mode. The UMC-200 is connected to the HDMI4/ARC connector of the TV. This allows me to use the ARC feature to play sound from the APPs on my home theater. The ARC passes DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 only. Hope this helps.

New HDMI board? Is this a XMC-1 revision 2? There was chatter from Big Dan in the last podcast about the upgraded HDMI board for the latest HDMI standards and is user replaceable. No talk about price that I know of.

Yeah, I'm running an optical cable to my UMC-1. I don't know how to turn on ARC for the UMC-1.

I suggest to contact MathWizard since he just went through this himself. In situations such as this a PM is usually much quicker.
