The desk in the 5s only picture is 42" wide. The desk in the Stealth 8 picture is 60" wide. I have them sitting on Styrofoam until my isoacoustics stands get here.
I can't comment on the 6s but compared to the 5s the Stealth 8 reaches nice and low and in my opinion does not need a sub for music listening.

Here is a pic of the Stealth 8 speakers on my desk vs the 5s for size comparison. I currently have Stealth-6's on IsoAcoustic stands just like this picture with the AMT-5's (and also paired with a DC-1). At one point I had a pair of Stealth-8's there too but boy did they dominate the desk! Now that I have a 43" (Sony 4K TV) monitor in between there isn't room for the 8's anymore anyway - I'm delighted with the 6's. I have an old passive sub that I can include if I switch to the (equally old) AVP for audio at the PC, but rarely do that now except for a quick test. I thought having 5.1 for gaming would be lots better but that's not clear at this point, so I rarely run outside of 2.0. I don't really miss the lowest end on music, but the sub does add a bit more fullness to the foundation of cello/basses in an orchestra piece. I'd have to have a more modern and potent sub to be able to appreciate the 32" pipes of an organ. Since the OP already has a Rhythmik sub (which are supposed to be quite tight), I'd try that first with the AMT-5's and see how that flies. If that extra low-end oomph was worth it then, question answered. No cost. Otherwise, 8's are a costly and size-wise large, though excellent upgrade.

After playing around with my Rythmik L12 sub and getting it to blend better with the airmotiv 6s, I may keep the 6s and skip the stealth 8s (and they no longer have them in stock). With that being said....I may just purchase a pair of Grado PS500e's for less than half the price of the stealth 8s. Any thoughts?

Or just get one more Rythmik L12 and have stereo subs with the Airmotiv 6s.......

I tried the airmotiv 6s briefly before one of the tweeter stopped working. Emotive took it back no questions asked, so that was great customer service.
But for the one that worked, I felt the stealth 8 (I got the stealth 8 now) has more authority.
Each note is just fully demonstrated for the whole spectrum of sound frequency. It does take a while to burn them in. It keeps getting better and better. I'm pairing my stealth 8 with dc-1 as well.
On a side note, I got the Svs sb13 ultra, since I found a great deal on it.
If I'm in the same room, I don't feel like the bass is overwhelming at all. It's just there and is meshes with the stealth 8 perfectly. Yes I think it's a bit overkill for a desktop setup, but it just sound so good. Even my headphone setup can't compet with the desktop setup.
I'm using hd700, hd600 and Pandora hope vi headphones with dc-1 at the moment.
If you have space and budget is not an issue, why not stealth? If desk space is an issue, then airmotiv 5s or 6s would be sufficient.
* assuming you are using your sub either way.
Good luck!

I'm currently using a pair of Airmotiv 5s in my 12' X 11' study, in a desktop near-field set up, and I was wondering whether upgrading to Airmotiv 6s would be overkill, So far, I have not considered the Stealths at all, since my thoughts have been strictly focused on a strictly desktop, near-field solution, but your post seems to address my concerns at least partially... The only detail missing is your room size, which I would like to know for comparative purposes... Thanks. Oh, and I am also using the SVS SB12-NSD with the Airmotiv 5s, and I feel it is not blending as well with the Airmotivs as a previous Emo Ultra 12 sub which was already there. The difference though is that I tried different placement options with the EMO, and found a great spot for it in the room. I haven't done the same with the SVS SB12-NSD yet, so you could say the jury is still out on those, but I do like the SVS sub on its own, so I hope the problem is just a matter of placement and calibration.
