I don't have a umik-1. There should be no difference in measurements if both have individual cals. There are other reasons one might prefer it. It's been discussed already.

I noticed that the UMIK was much more sensitive than the Emo microphone, at least in REW.

alucard, 90 degree cal file should be used when mic is pointed to ceiling, if you want point it on speaker you need to use 0 degree cal file. However as I know for room measurements better to point mic to ceiling I received the UMIK from Cross Spectrum and the instructions they provided confirm this. Thanks!

So still nobody can make direct EMM vs UMIK comparison, just make measurements with both mics in REW?

Just curious - do you use that little foam cap on the UMIK?

Just curious - do you use that little foam cap on the UMIK? Probably will. Interesting that it has it's own cut out in the foam inside the case. Must have some sort of importance?

Not sure if this is the proper terminology, but isn't that cover a "wind screen"? Not sure how necessary it is inside. Of course I could be way off base, which would not be the first time.

I finished taking measurements using UMIK. I did not use the wind screen. I am very happy with the results - I was also happy with the results with EMM. Is there a difference? I dont have a good audio memory so I am not sure. I would need to a/b test and that is not something I will be doing. In any case, I am sticking with the UMIK measurements because I think it sounds excellent, and I am happy that I purchased the CS UMIK with it's own individual cal file. YMMV.
Edit: Should be noted that I used Cross-SpectrumEmotivaMicCalOA cal file (I believe from SocketMan?) with the EMM

alucard, you did measurements with both mics in dirac or in REW? Can you please post your measurements Best if you can upload REW measurements files plus your mic cal file, or at least screenshots from dirac

What's the point? An individually calibrated mic against a mic with socketman's calibration? The winner is the former. Using a different cal is wrong and just a cost saving measure.

I can post tomorrow evening....if I remember I did measurements in Dirac - I installed REW and didnt see an option to open this file type (Emotiva Project file).

You should open dirac project files in dirac, rew files in rew, not vice versa.

Hi Seth,
Only dummy question is the one that is not asked (and I have asked plenty of them).
If you have not already done so, why not give the EMM a try and see what you think of the results? May be very happy with what you have. Can always go with the UMIK if not satisfied with the EMM.
Regards,
Steve

But with the internet and forums boards, and the nature of this hobby, I wanted to try UMIK. I could go back to using EMM and be happy.

Great thanks, that's what I wanted to see from beginning. Looks like not a big difference between EMM and UMIK.. But my hopes was lost some days ago and I ordered UMIK What cal file you used for EMM?
