Sitting in my living room right now "hot on the shelf" is a pair of XPA-1 gen 2's. I haven't had a whole lot of time with it. But rest assured I will have plenty to say with a (un)healthy dose of hyperbole thrown in. I am excited. It's been such a long time coming. It's hooked up in balanced mode to the DC-1 right now. With both speaker terminals used in a bi wire setup using two pairs of 12 guage cables.

I would give pics but my house is looking pretty bad right now!! As for looks at the beginning I was give me back my silver trim look. Now I'm liking the black monoliths. Can't decide which is better... I'll share a short impression. I am impressed. The more I listen to it, the more the differences between the amps I've heard are teased out. There's something really striking about the sound. That's about all I can say. Also...it really is hard to describe it after hearing it for the first time. Yo know there's a good bit to say but how do you go about articulating it? Does anybody else with these units have that same experience?
Oh yeah and warm up does count quite a bit with these. With a noticeable difference happening relatively soon - say half an hour to two hours from turn on in class A mode. Still early impressions though...

Well the good news is the sound is the best it has been in my house! Though a different flavor versus the XSP=-1. So better than the last time you came The bad news is the house is a wreck! lol

I want to take a bit more time (teasing y'all) to flesh out the sound . I am putting in some notes with the little time I've had with it. It pays to listen to this amp as it has a lot of tricks up its sleeve quite a few of them understated. Also still trying to figure out how to express what I hear. Not easy when it's producing sounds in a way I haven't quite heard before. I think I can say this....it's better than the XPA-2.

I did this with my MONOBLOCKs and I honestly believe that it will bring out the best in them for the life ( your lifetime) of the amps! I don't really expect you to be able to find all the nuances for some time yet! So verry happy for you!

I told Nick, I can't argue with logic when it's in front of me So of surprise to me, I have been going through literally the entire scott bradlee loves ya post modern Jukebox library. Because they sound different. Better. Spatial informatino I didn't hear before. So I started taking notes. So I don't know how many people are interested in reading my entire notes about a whole lot of the Scott Bradlee collection.....

Hey garbulky, just curious. Did you end up sticking to your plan to buy used xpa-1's, or did you take advantage of the holiday sale and get a new pair?

I've had a pair of the XPA-1 Gen2's for about six months now. I am looking at my options to unload them. I am not as impressed as the rest of the community with these. They just cannot deliver the higher current, low impedance drive capability I need. I sent them to a repair center to be checked out, later finding out nothing is wrong with them. I also have a XPA2 Gen 1 which I think is a much better amp. I would take two of these in mono over the XPA-1's any day. IMO.

Interesting observations. Which DAC did you use to power it and did you use a preamp? I assume you used the Cerwin Vegas right? I have the XDA-1's and have used the XPA-2 gen 1 as well. I thought the XPA-2 was a good amp. The XPA-1s are able to output approx 1750 watts @ 2 ohm according to Lonnie. I suspect if you are using the xda-1 that is your issue. It had trouble fleshing out the midrange on the bigger amps when driving them.
