I'm putting together a little system for my boys bedroom as a Christmas gift. They're nine and ten and are starting to listen to more music. I got a great deal on a pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers and I've bought a Chromecast which will be the source along with their tablets. I'm dying to jump on the Mini-X. At this sale price it seems like an absolute no brainer and it's the amp I really want for them but here is my concern. The amp is quite deep, like full size component deep. The pictures don't do the depth of the amp justice. There is not a single place I can put it in their room with their current furniture where they'll be able to easily get to the volume knob. I suppose I can always build or buy something but I was just looking for suggestions I might not have thought of.

The mini x 100 is a real powerful little gem. I think they can control the volume from the tablets. I have a chromcast, and u can mute, or change volume from the tablet/phone.
They won't have to touch the dial, and I don't imagine u have to keep it above 1/2 volume up. the Klipsch's are very efficient speakers and the mini x will drive thm with a lot of ease.

If you think they would need to use the volume knob go for the mi-x version that has a remote. It might be available used

I'll figure something out for placement. Thanks guys. I think what he's referring to is the Fusion Flex. They also had a very similar amp under the Sherbourn line. I have two Sherbourn LDS 2/75 which are very similar to the mini. They are outstanding little amps. The sherbourn 2/75 can actually be wall mounted if you can find a couple of them used. |

I put an Apple Airport Express on a mini-100 so my 11yr old son can control the volume thru is iphone and ipad. I set the volume knob at 50% on the mini. Works perfect and the amp is hidden in the closet out of the way so he can't mess with it. I am running (4) EMO Outdoor speakers parallel (2 ohm load) flanking the driveway so he can shoot pucks for hours and listen to what he wants. I have the same set-up in my master bedroom so my wife can control the music with her iphone, I have 2 pair $99 Polk in ceiling speakers also running at 2 ohms, no real low end but it works great and fills her need. I also put a mini on EMO IW 8's for my rears on my 7.1, an XPR 5 runs the other 5 speakers, the mini has no problem performing in that set-up. Its a little monster!

The Fusion Flex amp is basically the Mini-X, but with a button-operated stepped volume control - and a remote control. (The amplifier inside is basically the same, but you can control the volume from either the front panel buttons or the remote, and the channel tracking is virtually perfect, even at very low listening levels. The Fusion Flex also has two inputs, and some nice auto-switching features. The Fusion Flex costs a little more than the Mini-X, but, based on convenience, it would be my choice. ) They are in fact still in stock  (look down near the bottom on the Amps page) |

All great suggestions.. The mini X is a wonderful amp. The fusion flex might work well for you as well.
I went a different direction.
I found a set of speakers that were designed to be bi wired. They actually could be set up so that the L&R could play from each speaker together. I then bought an older Rotel amp 1066 that had six channels. I showed him how each channel worked, gave him a screw driver and a handful of speaker wire and let him go after it. Now he has bi wired the speakers LL and RR (thank you, Jesus) and adjusted the gains to where he liked them. I found him an older Rotel 1066 DVD player that is a decent CD player and got him a control freak.
I just ordered him a Rotel RSP 1066 from a member here and he will now have his own dedicated processor.
All of this on a tiny budget, and now he has the bug, just like me...

Keith is right on with Fusion Amplifier. All the goodness of the Mini X with more versatility too. I think it is a great way to go.
