I made a mistake. I thought you were referring to the phono pre amp. My uncle has the XPS-1. My bad. No worries. Happens to me too on occasion.

This morning was a sad start of the day. My XSP-1 won't turn on anymore. It is on standby, when I press the button it clicks, then it turns completely dark and goes back to standby. Please, please tell me this is something simple? I'm overseas I can't afford to send it in before the holidays . Thanks! I just got a brand new xsp-1 and it did exactly what you describe right the next day after i received it. Going back on monday for sure

I just got a brand new xsp-1 and it did exactly what you describe right the next day after i received it. Going back on monday for sure Are you also outside the USA...if not then not so much issue for you. I believe the TS got the unit 2nd hand and is not in the USA and as no warranty has been transferred is kind of caught out...which is a bummer. While emotiva are normally very understanding - I have seem parts sent without warranty being explicitly transferred but they only charged for parts shipping cost which was pretty minimal. Why emotiva can't/don't/won't track their products unit serial numbers when sales are made is beyond me. that would make the whole who bought what when much easier to deal with. I have done countless repairs for owners here in Singapore (large use base here) over the past 5-6 years and support is absolutely outstanding. I probably get parts shipped to me 2-3 times a month (often trying to get them sent in a consolidated shipment to save some costs - but never any issues and seldom have had any bad parts sent. That said I am very familiar with most of the products as an owner too. I service many brands, and Emotiva are by far the most responsive and easy to to deal with remotely. I even went to Franklin to meet the crew there and a nicer bunch of folks you couldn't meet.

Just in the mail from Emotiva:
Wow!
I found all the info I needed on the box it was shipped in, and warranty is transferred!
Also my problem has been forwarded to a support engineer.
Good stuff! I'm happy!

I'm experiencing this same problem, for the second time now, on 120V US power. I was a very early adopter - bought one of the first XSP-1 units (even ignored the fact that the unit I received had well-used/obviously-marred RCA connectors - huh?). I was generally happy with it for the 2 years that it worked. Well, except for the terrible brick of a remote, with markings that mysteriously rubbed off as though I was keeping it in my pocket. I've never even seen a plastic remote get that bad. When I was arranging for the RMA, I asked about the remote and was told that this was considered "normal wear and tear". LOL. Then, I had to argue about my ability to package the unit safely for shipment (this is NOT an 80lb amp) before they were so kind as to allow me to pay to ship it to them so they could fix what I've decided is obviously another unaddressed defect (power board was replaced last time). I'm handy with electronics, so I may consider replacing the board myself if they'll ship me one for a reasonable price, but, good grief, this leaves a nasty taste.

My XSP-1, gen 2, standby to power switch does same thing, but only when temperature is under about 16 degrees C, ie from standby, goes dark, "ping" noise, return to standby. I put an electric heater in front of it for 5 mins, now works, no other problems. Still gives "ping" noise with each on/off so guess this is normal. Probably save all this angst if manufacturer included operating temp in manual specifications..stay cool all..

We were down to 12 degrees C last evening and around 10 degrees this morning and my XSP-1 had no issues, maybe not temperature?
Cheers Gary

Leonski, "Ping" noise certainly appears to be electro-magnetic relay as you suggest...as stated, I believe it's normal..in any event, unit works OK when 16+C, so that's fine with me...not all that enthusiastic myself about relaxing in 16-C...thanks, stay cool

Agreed, 16c is about 61f and is too cool even for ME who didn't run my heater all winter and sleeps open window in cool weather. Summer is coming and we've already had a FEW days above 80f, (27c) but it's gonna get warmer.

After some months of testing/observing, I believe that the failure of my XSP-1 gen 3 to switch from standby to power @ less than 16 deg C is definately a design fault. It appears that when cold, ie @ less than 16deg C, a relay (or solanoid/electro magnetic switch) is not getting enough current to hold it closed. At 16C + all is well. It should be noted that this condition is a constant, not haphazard, and always occurs @ 16C.
