Is there a secret to getting the headphone jack on the XDA-2 to work?

No it should just work. Remember it has its separate volume setting. So you'll have to turn the volume up after you plug it in.

Also make sure that you choose the correct input.

My earlier reply to Garbulky's comment has apparently disappeared into a bit bucket. Turning up the volume on the XDA-2 to its max setting got sound out of the headphones (my wife's Bose QC15), but the volume is very, very low. The headphones work fine -- she reports -- with her cell phone, and I was able to get plenty of volume out of the headphone jack on my Emotiva UMC-200 preamp.

I assume the regular speakers get perfectly loud right? If not like if you're using a computer your volume may be set low on the PC volume control. If your speakers get nice and loud... Then your headphone volume should be very loud at that setting. Since you are hearing something (and it's not a volume control up stream) I would bet either tha jack itself is a bad fit. Something's wrong with te receptacle on the XDA-2. Or the XDA-2 is broken. Try any other set of headphones. If it does the same thing then I would consider contacting EMotiva. It may need a return.
