Not sure if this the correct spot but I am in need of info on what to do in order to get my system set up for streaming and downloading. I am totally new to the world of streaming and downloading , I have the PT-7030 feeding an xpa-5, with a Oppo-83se as source. I am using the usb on the 7030 with my I-phone 6 for Pandora for starters. I have internet with a couple of HP laptops, one with Windows 7 and one with Windows 8. I am not opposed to getting another laptop for my music/theater room. We have 2 x-box units that the kids are using and our wi-fi can be spotty at times. currently trying to trouble-shoot this with our cable company. my question is, where do I start ?

Start by insuring that your internet speeds and wifi strength are fast and robust, otherwise no point in streaming.

Yeah, I believe the cables (coax) seemed to have been the culprit. Cable company replaced some but I believe there are still some that need to be upgraded. that's where I'll start then, thank you

get a good DAC!!! I am using a IBM Thinkpads USB out into a DAC Magic. The Dacs analog outs to a tube pre and the Pre's out to my amps. I'm new to PC audio too and every time I start to venture in I get frustrated and back out I do have great internet speeds. I listen to SomaFM,BBC2 and my hard drive

Planned on getting an XDA-1 or 2 to take care of the audio.interested in Nugs.net for streaming audio and webcasts but also prostudio masters for certain album downloads.

You should seriously consider a BigEgo for a USB DAC, personally I have preference for its sound above an XDA-2.
Happy New Year Gary

Thanks for the reminder , actually we had one of the techs here last week and I think he changed out the last of the older cables. Guess that's why I haven't had any loss of signal since. I know the boys will let me know immediately if there is any issues. Any recommendations on a good lap-top for the streaming and downloading?

Toshiba has some very good laptops that are capable, priced right and attractive.
