To me bass has always been just finding the sweet spot you like. I enjoy my bass on the lighter side of the force.

You guys are not listening to high SPL are you? That was the thing when I was young and into car audio. Bass at high DB's was no different.
I started working on airplanes at 15 and running jet engines for 20 years. I do not have great hearing now and the thing is I do not know what it is to have great hearing now. It does not come back and unless you are taking a test and someone tells you that you can not hear everything you have no ideal.
Take care of your hearing. You do not need to hear things at high volumes to enjoy them. Superman is from planet krypton. Earth sounds do not hurt his ears. You are not from krypton.
