I have the typical home living room with a fireplace in the middle and the TV hanging above the fireplace. We are planning on building built in shelving units on both side "Wife request" so these leave the Q of where to put the gear.....
My thoughts are to stack the washer and dryer in the laundry room which shares a wall to the side of where the built in will be and wiring wise won't cause much more wire to be run for the speakers ETC... TV line would get extended but that is minimal.
So what issues are there when you start moving AV gear to another room? Should I invest in a AV rack, I'm an IT guy so computer racks look simular, or should we just build another area for the AV gear to be in. I'm tempted to hang a AV rack up high so its out of the way, but may also install it lower.
Or is moving AV out of a room a pain when it comes to remotes ETC.
Basically looking for the downsides, and gotchas I need to watch out for.
I would enjoy seeing my gear but would wouldn't mind moving it out of sight, for a nice clean look.
Thanks for the help

I've tried to keep it out of the way for years. No noise, no mismatched components, no distracting lights, etc.
You'll probably need an RF remote like one of the nicer Harmonys. There are some other alternatives, but I don't think they are worth the additional headaches.
Make sure you can easily get access to the back of everything. Otherwise, you'll be cursing yourself every time you need to tweak something or add/remove a component.
