I've been very curious, I use Jriver and am very happy with it. I see in the forum that some members are using DBpoweramp.
Is there a difference between the 2 or is it just a personal thing ?

I do the same as Geebo
DBPoweramp for ripping.
J River for library management and playback.
You can rip with J River as you know. Matter of preference.
I've found DBPoweramp to have more flexibility, more options for ripping and much better album/music information database.

And definitely more intuitive with more options. For example, it will rip HDCD to 20 bit files if you desire. The next time you have some ripping to do, get the free trial.

Why spend time ripping music when you can just listen to it? TIDAL CD quality, over 35 million tracks and 85,000 music videos, cataloging and a 30trial...discount for VETERANS!! The only thing you have to do is push the ON button!

None of the online streaming businesses have some music that I do and find crucial. So it is OK for finding new stuff, but there is some music that I really appreciate and it is just not there.

Trey Wow..35,000,000 songs and you can't fine something that would interest you?...ok! Not everybody here listens to the "whiner of the month" that is played to death over and over on most radio stations. Classical music, for a start, is severely underrepresented in any online streaming catalog I've looked at. I like how you (subconsciously?) write that as "songs"; my music preference is not packaged as "songs". Second is the internet going down issue mentioned by mr nick. You live in the city and have fiber? Knock yourself out, some of us live far away from the nearest fiber / dsl node and our only options are wireless of some sort. Add to that bandwidth problems, there are limits and costs; why pay to download your favourite playlist more than once? Third; I like to pay for the music once, then keep it for eternity or until a new recording (or higher quality recording) becomes available.

Sorry that you felt challenged...songs/music...it was unconscience but I see no reason for apologizing. I live in a suburb just outside the city but I do get your point, however no one mentioned LOCATION. I'm not a mind reader. As far as being buried with your music that is your decision. My suggestion of TIDAL was just that...a suggestion I was not down playing anyone's choice of music or what venue they chose.

You seemed incredulous that TIDAL would not satisfy every possible user's wish, I simply listed a few reasons off the top of my head. I'm not "buried" with my music neither; no need to apologize, I certainly didn't ask you to.

Obviously it's not to your liking. It's not a one size fits all. It was a SUGGESTION and alternative. As far as chaledged...you seemed to take exception to the word song identifying your music.

I'm still ripping with iTunes to ALAC with error correction. I guess now is a good time to try db.
I would prefer to just use TIDAL but most of my listening is classical and the ridiculously convoluted way the genre is tagged leaves me no choice than to continue buying music and re-tagging it.

dbPoweramp for ripping JRiver for playing Can you integrate the two, where you can rip with dbPower, and watch the motion of the rip via Jriver. In my head I feel I wouldn't have the same control using any other ripping software, than just using Jriver. Thanks Djoel

djoel - I think dbPoweramp is a better ripper. To me, I saw no reason to use Jriver in any part of the ripping process.

What does DBpoweramp do that Jriver cannot do? I have been using Jriver for a few years now and it works good, but if there is better out there I would gladly switch.

I'm with Wilbur on this. It's smaller and quicker and easier and one really neat thing is that it can rip HDCD to 20 bit Flacs. I forgot what CD I tested it with but ripping to 20 bit gave me something like 2 or 3 db more dynamic range (as measured with Foobar) than ripping HDCD to 16 bit as other rippers do. You should just download the trial and give it a run. You may or may not like it but you'd be the best one to determine that. Another free ripper to try if you haven't already is EAC (Exact Audio Copy). I prefer that over jRiver for ripping as well.
