Haven't used it for years for what little TV watching we do. However we do have a Channel Master tuner with OTA antennae in the attic , which BTW is the only way of getting a non compressed 1080p signal that I am aware and recently CM added Slingbox to their internet lineup of apps along with a few others like Vudu etc. While we have not chased to subscribe to the service its fairly cheap, something like $20 or less a month. Between that and an Apple TV this is more than enough programming for us.

Never had cable TV, I refuse to pay a ton of money for the delivery of a pile of garbage with an occasional worthy item thrown in. I live off OTA HDTV a Roku box and Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions with 50Mbps FiOS. It is of course very subjective, my way does not have to be your way, but I am perfectly happy .

I was a total cord cutter from 2010 - 2014 but then Comcast was selling internet with basic cable cheaper than internet only. I assume this is an act of desperation. Aside from breaking news for natural disasters (then I'm a marathon watcher) I don't utilize the cable service. However, I found a HDHomeRun Prime tuner on Craigslist for a song and decided to integrate it into the mix for fun. It's a great little box and I use the Channels App for the new Apple TV which works just great.

How much for the 50M FiOS? Netflix 12 Amazon 8.25 So your total bill is FiOS plus 20.25. Good info for those wanting to cord cut.

When my bundle deal with Comcast is up Feb 2017, I'll be closely looking at how well Sling TV is doing. Comcast seemed rather desperate a year ago to keep my business, and I've been trying to ween myself off cable, but there needs to be certain channels available on a streaming TV service, otherwise I'll have to stick with Comcast until such time "a La Carte" fits my needs.

As of now I am paying $44.99 for Verizon FiOS 50/50, but the two year agreement expires at the end of March. I used to have 3/3 DSL with them ( ) for just few dollars less (Started at $29.99 and crept up slowly over the years). They tried for a long time to make me switch to FiOS, but the prices were ridiculously high. Eventually, did my homework and found out I could switch to internet-only service from Comcast and get a decent deal. With that leverage I was able to get FiOS for just a little more than I was paying for DSL. I suppose they really wanted to get rid of DSL in my neighborhood or my threat to switch to Comcast unlocked some secret deal... I will have to use all of my negotiation skills to get another good deal, though. As of now they are offering me $54.99 to stay with Internet 50/50 for another two years. The first two months price would be lower, so the monthly equivalent price would be about $52/month, which is still higher than what I have been paying, although not too bad. Time to check again what Comcast is offering for internet only service!

$68: Xfinity Internet, Basic Cable and HBO (I use my own modem and HDHomeRun CabelCard device = ZERO rental fees) $8.5: Amazon $0 Netflix (I use a friend's account - dishonest I know)
I am very happy with Xfinity internet as of now because their is no data cap in my area, yet, and I'm seeing 200 Mpbs down.

I keep looking at the title of this thread thinking what did the cable box do to deserve to be killed.

We have 5 TV's in the house, with 3 connected to cable and all capable of streaming. It has only been recently that I started using the streaming...the rest of the family has used it for a while. I have really enjoyed it. I found a great documentary on Keith Richards and another on the Eagles. Both we very enjoyable. What I am really liking is that I search by type of show I want instead of by channel. I can do searching by type with TWC, but I am so used to the guide set up to search by channel that I do what I always have done. Or, I just tune to a specific channel and watching w/o searching.
I only watch a little news - which I could do via a digital antenna, and the only thing I'd really miss on cable would be certain sporting events that I watch on Cable.

I like cable and all the channels. I don't watch but about four of them most of the time but I like that I have a bunch more that could have something good on it sometimes. I enjoy exploring on Hulu sometimes for bizarre stuff but also enjoy stuff that shows up in my cable listing that can be even better. I was watching Jonny Carson shows the other night from the 70's. Not that best of stuff. This was just full shows. I am sure you can do on demand for good stuff but there is a lot that you can only get on cable/satellite.
I do not mind paying for it. I spend most of my time on music and movies and internet these days. That's where my money goes too. Makes sense to me. I figure I am saving money sitting home with plenty of entertainment. Just sitting here letting my money make babies and those babies make more babies. When they all grow up I will cut the cord and go mobile.
