Hey guys,
I have a weird issue that I can't figure out. I have a Sherbourn SR-120. Up to now I had it running in 2 channel stereo. I recently bought a set of speakers for 7.1 home theater and Zone 2. After setting it up, I tested my 2 channel stereo and it played for a couple seconds and then the receiver cut out. I turned on the receiver and it cut out again while playing 2 channel. So I pulled out all the speaker cables and everything connected to it so that it is back to the way it was before hooking in all my speakers. After doing that, I tried playing 2 channel stereo and I get the same behavior - After a couple seconds of music the receiver shuts down. I have a red light on the source that was playing and the receiver is blank. I can start it up again by hitting the power button on front but it will shutdown shortly afterwards. This is a real bummer because I was looking forward to completing my setup but now it looks like my receiver is acting funny. Has anyone experienced this before? I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out before I call technical support tomorrow.
Thanks!

This, unfortunately, has been a know issue for the SR-120. Seems like it goes to sudden cardiac arrest, while still powering on with no sound. I had same problems, with not only one, but 2 sr-120. Emotiva could not figure it out either, and they kept it for 3 weeks to trouble shoot it. They sent me a new one instead, and sure enough same thing happened 1 week later, so it went back to them.
Not trying to discourage you bro, but I wish you a good luck with your SR-120
My opinion, after all the Headaches, the SR-120 is "possessed",...!!! I gave up on trying a similar new replacement.

So I called technical support this morning and no one is available to help me with the SR-120 but I am suppose to receive a call back this afternoon. I really hope they do call me back. This issue is frustrating.

Now that you have a 7.1 system, another issue with the SR-120 that you'll discover is that applying PLIIx when playing True HD 5.1 or DTS-HD Master 5.1 titles won't give you the rear speakers as it's supposed to. You'll still have 5.1. It will work with Dolby Digital and regular DTS 5.1, but not the lossless formats.

I had same issue. It seems to happen when zone 2 is used, mine blew channel 7. Sent it in and they repaired ch 7 and sent it back. Has worked fine since, but I have not tried using zone 2 again.

I had a chance to play around and and self-diagnose. I turned off the internal amp and then connected my front left and right and back left right speakers through the pre-outs to external amplifiers and they seem to be working. So it looks like it is something with the internal amp in the Sherbourn :-( I don't have enough external amps to power everything including Zone 2 and with the last comment I'm now scared to try Zone 2!

I thought this was corrected in the latest firmware the .14 version? Another question - does this mean I won't ever get 7.1 unless the source is a Blue Ray mastered with 7.1?

If it was ever fixed, I never heard about it. I sold my 7020 because I was told there would be no new firmware updates and it had yet to be addressed. My friend's ST-120 has the same issue. You can get 7.1 with a PCM 5.1. You can upmix 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS DVD tracks to 7.1 using PLIIx. But 5.1 SACD's or Blu-ray's with DTS Master or True HD 5.1 don't output any rear channel information, even the though the processor lets you select it and shows it on the display. That's been my experience and my friend's. My friend therefore decodes everything in his player, outputs PCM through HDMI to the ST-120 and then PLIIx works on 5.1 HiRes audio formats.

Thanks for the additional info above. By the way, I was finally able to get through to Damon in technical support and we was able to help me troubleshoot my issue to resolution. What was happening is that my amp section would go into protect mode on channel 5. Channel 5 corresponds to the front right speaker. We were able to test to confirm it was something with the speaker or the cable and not the amp. Looking at the speaker wire. I saw a strand of red wire stick out of my banana plug and touch the black contact. I re did that connection and plugged everything back up. I am working now. Damon, if you are reading this, THANK YOU! I just wish it wasn't so darn hard to get through to technical support... Glad I didn't have to ditch my receiver. THAT would have been really frustrating!
