Hi All,
I am looking to replace (and upgrade) my Squeezebox Duet to stream into an XDA-2 gen 2. I was researching the SOtM SMS100 but found it was discontinued (although an SMS200 is in development I understand). I could wait until April for an SMS200 but chances are I will pull the trigger on a Sonore/Sonic Orbiter SE by Simple Design.
My one open question about that decision relates to USB connection vs. S/PDIF digital optical. I've learned in communication with some Sonic Orbiter folks that they think USB is a preferred connection to the DAC, that it will support more sample rates than S/PDIF and the SQ is higher . The rep stated they have dozens of USB drivers on board the Sonic Orbiter and the odds are good that it will work with the XDA-2, but I am hoping to hear some actual experience.
I also spoke with an Emotiva tech last week about USB vs. S/PDIF comparisons and did not hear a strong preference for USB, but I guess that is to be expected.
Any experience or even hearsay about the Sonic Orbiter and an XDA-2 gen 2? Thoughts on USB inputs to the XDA-2 vs. optical S/PDIF?
Thanks all!
