Thats my question, I love the R series, they look great and are built like a tank IMHO. That said, sonicly, do you they bring something more to SACD and/or HT? What more will it do for me that the XPA-5 doesn't do?
love to own one, but i need a more reasonable purpose then they look great.
Has Anybody done a good comparison of the two amps?

Nothing. Other than rediculous amounts of power. I was using no where near its potential so I dumped it
Pretty to look at but other than that save your $$

I had an XPA-5. I couldn't tell it from my larger Emotiva amps (but, as you know, I listen at lower levels & have easy-to-drive speakers). So for me, the XPA-5 was a space-saving, all-in-one, fantastic-sounding package.
So why did I sell it? I decided that I didn't want all the clutter of having rear speakers in my room. Slam-Dunk - no longer need 5 channels!
OTOH - I could have bi-amplified the front speakers & had a channel left over for the center! LOL
