Hi to everyone- have had my new amp for 3 days powering my B &W 604 S3's and I am amazed to the point of darn near shedding a tear! My musical taste ranges from classical to heavy metal- with everything in between. My speakers came to life- literally- better than the first day when I brought them home new. Tight dynamic bass- open mid range and crystal clear highs. I wont get into the esoteric audio mag descriptions (that I used to think were BS)- well I do believe they would be accurate as of day 1... Now bear in mind I am using my Pioneer VSX-32 Elite as a preamp and media is streamed- therefore a high quality stream is awesome and a low quality stream is, well- low quality- I did notice this with my other amp setups- but this XPA-2 is light years ahead My wife actually smiled... More Emotiva products will be purchased for sure!!!!!!!!! as well as participation on this forum

Congratulations on the XPA2! You'll enjoy it for years. Processors might change over time but not that much on amplifiers.

Laserpaddy, welcome to the forum.
Every once and a while I think about replacing my XPA-2s. So far I haven't found the right combination of improvement to price. (The once available XPRs were too big and pricey.)
The only thing that I can think of on the horizon, might be a dual balanced channel Gen 3. But unless it is really better, I won't consider it worth the price.

If you think it sounds good now wait until you hear it with an XSP-1 G2.
Enjoy!

I always turn the volume control knob all the way down. Shut-off the amp, then source(s)and finally the pre. Just the reverse for power on.

This is probably not a good sign. That's never happened when I used an XPA-2 or any Emo amp. I don't know what it is but others might now. Maybe wizardofoz

Sounds like a possible amp fault with the power down isolation circuit...xpa-2 is a rather different design internally to the xpa-3/5 modules as it's also bridgable and a real pita to repair on the bench...even the guys at Emotiva don't like to have to open these puppies up

Depends on the amp muting circuit? The couple of Audiolabs go click when you switch off (and on) so no start up pops. Had a NAD that goes pffffttttt when you switch off. Same for my ATI, if I switch off with the pre still playing music you can hear music for a couple of seconds after you switch the amp off.
