As Nick has already stated, maybe it's something as simple as a fuse. Any how, since it appears to be out of warranty, it wouldn't hurt to take the top off and check to see if there is something obvious.

Thanks guys. My friend says it freezes and shows digital snow? on screen. So i assume is not a simple fix. The unit is the pt-7020, any experience with local techs fixing pre/pros? I just dont want to give him false hopes that can be fixed

I just dont want to give him false hopes that can be fixed I'm not familiar with the PT-7020, but there must be a way to try a "Factory Reset". If he hasn't tried that yet, do so, but remember to write down any settings. I'm also going to say try to re-load the firmware/software may as it may have been corrupted somehow.

As I remember they had a generous warranty. Did he at least check with Emo?

As I remember they had a generous warranty. Did he at least check with Emo? Yeah, he got it from the last closeout with no warranty.

open it up and replug all the ribbon cables... check the voltages for the power supply outputs (or get someone who knows servicing to do it)...these are about the only things you can try without a stack of parts to swap out.

Yes I would....worked for the UMC-1/200 many times. haven't seen inside a 7020 but I am guessing its vintage UMC-1/200 territory and certainly worth a try. The UMC-1 needed some board removals to get at the lower level of ribbon cables...just be careful/gentle in there and look carefully as some connectors are just a friction/pressure fit and others might have a latch that needs to be flipped up to release the ribbon (HDMI boards with very high connection counts in particular) so don't force anything.

I just dont want to give him false hopes that can be fixed I assume this is with a video source, What source does it happen with, is it with all sources? How are they connected? With more info I am sure someone here could help with this problem. Mark
