While SUPER efficient and compact, I don't have a ton of faith in switching power supplies. In MY experience (Mostly computer power supplies), they have been very unforgiving with power surges and generally unreliable long term. I'm not saying that this will be the case with Emotiva, but I have my reservations. For me, I'm going to take a "wait and see" approach. Besides, the heavier the amp, the better the amp!!!

No worries. I can't say I know what taking the piss means, so we're even.... He means he was kidding around. This is usually done while eating a Vegemite sandwich. I ate Vegemite ONCE... It's what nightmares are made of!

geebo : I was confused too. Maybe not. Let me check. I was trying to find one with the top panel open. Oh turns out it was a FRENCH amp! Advance Acoustics MMA 1000 Oh my. It does look similar. Anyway this is an XPA-1. But unfortunately the top isn't open.

Since the amps are individually applied in the Gen 3, why does the power drop for each additional amp? Starts at 300 wpc for two channels and drops to 200 wpc for seven channels.

Limited by the power supply I guess.
For me there is a bit too much of Marketing butter on the XPA Gen 3 page right now and not many Facts. Let´s wait and see how much and of what Quality the bread underneath all that butter is...

Remember, 300 watt blades only cost $200.00. It'll be a very nominal fee for additions and shipping if you decide to re-configure. Also, your amplifier will be completely run through testing and burn-in when it is sent in for modifications. Nice. We are very concerned about others doing this, even though it seems simple, because of the very high internal voltages present and the need to properly QC the amplifiers after changes have been made. Cheers, Big Dan Does it need to be sent back to Tennessee or is this something your shop in Calgary can do ?

I must say, I like the look of the new line. Looks fresh. While I'll always be a fan of the slim designs, I can appreciate the behemoths!

Any idea on what the power output is going to be on the double-wide modules?
Looked, but can't find!

The Audioholics article said 500 watts per module.

The Audioholics article said 500 watts per module. It probably is....at 4 ohms.

Talk about Deja vu all over again. Can you say "full circle" View Attachment Each of those modules had their own power supply. The Gen3s have one power supply per box regardless of the number of channels. And the power supply technology is completely different. Yes, they are drop in modules but that's where the similarity ends.

Is anyone else concerned that these new amps are only rated for 4 ohms? Frankly that doesn't inspire much confidence in the amps from my point of view. Aside from that they really look interesting but I think my Cinepro 3K6 is safe for a while to come. Seth, whats' your address?

"Massive old school transformers and giant filter capacitors are rendered obsolete. They just can't compete. It's a revolution in power design, and it's the backbone of the new XPA modular amplifier system. It's the way of the future, and it's here now. Gee wiz, I guess ill have to bury my XPA-1L's in the back yard this week end. Wait, ill be glad to burry them with me, ill come by and take that burden off your hands! What are friends for?
