I've owned three units now with a zone 2 output. Never used it. And a friend with multiple speakers in his house went with a separate system to do what zone 2 is normally meant for
What about you?

I run my outdoor patio with zone 2 from my UMC-1. It is really nice sometimes to sync up audio inside and outside while entertaining.

I run zone two out from umc-200 to Yamaha reciever to outside speakers located on patio/deck area. The speakers are covered by overhead screened in porch with roof attached to house (kitchen and dining area). My grills and smoker also downstairs with plenty of seating (above and below). It works out very well.

I've used Zone 2 with many processors to drive a whole house amp, generally it allows me to listen outdoors. One thing nice about Emotiva's Zone 2 implementation is that it can work with all input types (HDMI, S/PDIF, Analog), many products can only route analog, or specifically can't do HDMI. The UMC-1, UMC-200, and XMC-1 can route all input types as long the Zone 2 output mirrors the main outs.

I also use mine outdoors - it's nice that I can be outside grilling, or at the pool and still have music, or a baseball game on. It's also nice, that someone can be watching a movie inside, and I can still use it for what I want, outside.

I have the zone 2 output connected to a Sony wireless speaker which sites outside on the lanai.

Ahh. OK, I thought the Zone 2 was for a different source... say FM to Zone 2 while someone else watches a movie on Zone 1

Zone 2 is great for running a stereo signal to distributed audio to a multi-channel zone amp, and pipe music throughout the house. Or listen to a favorite event anywhere around the house.

I do something with the REC IN/OUT crossed over to RC OUT/IN between 2 XMC-1 setups so I can listen to one source from either location...in both systems. great for having Vinyl or other stereo sources synced to the other room. the nice thing about REC out is its fixed level ... Zone output is variable which I don't want...but I wish it could be optionally fixed level - that would be a nice feature if we ever get any feature updates for the XMC-1

I use zone 2 on my XMC-1 for speakers in my kitchen. I can switch them on, when listing to music or radio and off when our children are playing games.

I run a y connection from center channel to drive an amp channel for the kitchen, mainly for movies but also in all channel stereo for music as and when.

Out on one and in on the other? How far apart are they? Not being familiar w/ the XMC-1 controls, how do the zones work? Can you set volume independently for each zone or are they tied together? I would think it would be zones 2 & 3 not 1 & 2, or is that just they way Emotiva labels the zones - main, 1 & 2? How many zones? 3 (thought was 2, but if only 2 why a zone 1 and zone 2 out)? Can all be "on" at once? More I look, more confused I is on the zone configuration. Only going by info here on website, have not read manual. BTW - just asking questions as the XMC-1 is on my (short) list for a future purchase.

I use my powered zone 2 for a pair of patio speakers. It's nice to have music sync when having a party or I'll have some music playing on the patio while brewing beer and my wife will be watching TV.

I connect that signal to my headphone amp when i watch something while others are still asleep.
I connect the output in the UMC to the whole house audio controller through an optical out of the UMC. This allows me to not play the HT speakers when watching, say news, and use the in-ceiling in the kitchen about 32 feet away. Lower volume, protecting the aging ears.

I might be wrong but I think there was a delay between the Zone1 and Zone 2 outputs that drove to me split the centre to the kitchen (maybe to was the mix down out)...I might have to go back and retest that one day, but its so hard to pull everything out and reachable it I might not get to it for a while.
