The big ego also has standard line out, the volume on the line out does not change up or down, it is fixed at 100% volume. So you can use this line to run a connection to a preamp or to a mini-x etc. I believe Keith at one point said the big ego might sound a tiny bit better than the little ego due to different chips or something like that.

The Big Ego uses the next-up DAC chip, so is a few dB quieter (S/N)... I can't hear any difference, but you might. The Line Output is handy for connecting the Big Ego "permanently" to your stereo, and the Optical Output can be used to connect it to an optical input - like on a pre/pro. (Note that the Optical connection is an output - and so enables the Big Ego to also act as a USB-to-Optical converter... it is not an input.) The big ego also has standard line out, the volume on the line out does not change up or down, it is fixed at 100% volume.
