Hi all,
I recently purchased a "pre-loved" XMC-1 which is exactly one year old and whilst I understand that I need to pay for a new Dirac license for the Full version I would like to try out the LE version which comes with the XMC-1 however the website requires an activation key to download the program which I did not receive from the previous user. Can anyone advise if I need to request a new one or can I use the old one form the previous user?

The 30-day trial period does not apply to Dirac Full for Emotiva. It is a final sale item. If you return your XMC-1 during the 30-day trial period and you also purchased Dirac Full, you will receive a refund for the XMC-1 only.
Your Dirac Full for Emotiva key will be sent to you via email approximately 1 business day after your order is processed. Emotiva distributes keys Monday through Friday during business hours only.
Not the Original Owner?
If you purchased an XMC-1 on the used market, the license for Dirac Live LE for Emotiva is not transferable from the original owner. If you’d like to use Dirac Live capabilities with your processor, you will need to purchase Dirac Live Full. Dirac Live LE is not sold separately.

The previous owner should have disclosed that. He mentioned that his Dirac live license would have to be re-purchased but he may not have known that the LE that came with the unit was not transferable. |

As I understand it, if the LE license was never activated it can be used by the next owner, this would be the case if someone only activated the Live license. |

I think you're got it right - but you've got the terminology confused. The version of Dirac that comes with the XMC-1 is Dirac Live LE for Emotiva. The full $99 upgrade version is Dirac Live Full for Emotiva. (So they're BOTH "Dirac Live".) And, yes, neither one is transferable - but, if you have either the free version, or the $99 version, and you've never activated it, you can pass along the UNUSED activation key to someone else. You could look at it like you use your activation key to CREATE YOUR LICENSE, and, once created, your LICENSE cannot be transferred; but an UNUSED activation key is sort of like a coupon - or cash. So, if you buy a used XMC-1, and the activation key for Dirac Live LE for Emotiva that came with it has been used, you'll have to buy a Dirac Live Full for Emotiva license. And, if you buy an XMC-1 new, but absolutely plan to buy Dirac Live Full for Emotiva, you can "save" your original LE activation key to sell with the XMC-1. (The licenses are separate, and you DON'T have to activate the LE key before using the Full key.) He mentioned that his Dirac live license would have to be re-purchased but he may not have known that the LE that came with the unit was not transferable. As I understand it, if the LE license was never activated it can be used by the next owner, this would be the case if someone only activated the Live license. |
