What speakers does everybody recommend for Atmos/DTS-X
5.2.4 or 7.2.2
Will Emotiva have an offering or two??
Ceiling mount or stand mount? Stand mounted speakers would be great for those unable or unwilling to cut holes in the ceiling. Many don't have access or ability to do so. Would be nice for them.
Any thoughts?

^We'll know soon what Emotiva products would fit the bill for Atmos/DTS-X duty. Ideally they should be ceiling mounted but as you say, this is not always possible. Bouncing off the ceiling would then be the (second) best option, IMHO. Setting up speakers is not hard and this Dolby article has lots of good information: --> >> linky <<
Also a useful read is this article from Crutchfield: --> >> linky <<

Any thoughts? Most of the 'stand mounts' I've seen include the .2 speakers firing up from the L/R speakers, they have two sets of connectors. I'm assuming however you don't want to replace your mains, so you'd need a 'bounce speaker' on a stand or mounted by itself (like the one linked above). I think there are also some that can sit on top of your mains (if they lend themselves), but that seems a bit makeshift.

Over the weekend (as mentioned in the XMC-1 Atmos thread) I helped install 2 ceiling speakers in a friends a 5.2.2 system. To match his current Tannoy 5.1 speakers he chose Tannoy CMS503DC's which feature wide (90 degree conical) dispersion dual concentric drivers, a 130 mm multi-fibre cone and a 20 mm PEI dome tweeter with a Torus Ogive waveguide. Their frequency range is 70Hz to 54kHz with 89 dB/Watt sensitivity. They are capable of handling 120 Watts continuous and 240 Watt peaks and come already mounted in their enclosures. The sound is unbelievably good, quite stunning in fact, way better than I thought 5.2.2 would sound.
Cheers Gary

I would stick with the same brand as your front speakers

My proposal for using Atmos speakers: no need to cut holes in the ceiling ... and easy removal after watching. This is a just a prototype, I need to do some more refinements ....

You'll need one of these around each viewer's head. My proposal for using Atmos speakers: no need to cut holes in the ceiling ... and easy removal after watching. This is a just a prototype, I need to do some more refinements ....
