Putting everything together, my ERC 3 will be here Friday. Would you rip mixed cds with music you listen to a lot for the cd player or would you get a DAC and stream from an outside source? What would be difference in sound quality ? Have been looking for an XDA2 gen2 , or used oppo since I have already completely blown my budget.

I gave up on having a CD player a couple years ago and only listen to ripped music or Tidal. If you rip in lossless (like FLAC), I can't tell a difference in sound quality. The convenience of listening to ripped music is so fantastic that I will never go back to using a disc player.

I eliminated a CD player from my system about two years ago after a dedicated Mac Mini with Amarra and a USB DAC sounded better (to me) than a Denon DVD-3900 and Pioneer CD player. I doubt I'll ever return to CDs although I still buy them on occasion and rip to ALAC.
I truly believe lossless streaming is going to completely replace CDs in the next few years. Vinyl and turntable sales seem to have a lot of momentum and will likely continue to grow.
