I'm having a bad day with my computer and dirac. Numerous times when I start up the software and I click yes to connect to my xmc, a window pops up stating the dirac live calibration tool has stopped working and then the program closes. It's done this a lot but then every so often it connects and works.
I re-ran dirac and when I got to where I create filters it started it's thing and appeared to be working fine. I left the computer to download the filters into the xmc as this takes a while. When I came back to check on the progress (about 40 mins) the pop window stating the calibration tool has stopped working was up for whatever reason. The weird thing is when I checked the xmc it was on and ready to use when all the times earlier today when the computer program shut down the xmc would stay connected and I'd have hold the power button for 10ish seconds on the xmc to reset it.
My question is, did dirac actually download ok into the xmc? I checked the dirac speaker levels and they were reset to 0 for all speakers. I adjusted the dirac speaker levels with my spl meter after the last time I ran dirac so I know something happened.
I'm sure my computer is the issue (vista) as it's pretty old but it worked fine a month ago. Not sure what the issues are all about today?

Being a typical - and quite complex - computer program, the Dirac software can interact with other programs, and may not run very well on certain computers. (Usually avoiding running other programs, and eliminating programs that may conflict, like AV programs, will at least help.) Also, the step of transferring the filters should take, at most, ten or fifteen minutes; if it takes longer then that might suggest that your computer is underpowered, or your network is congested, both of which might lead to a larger than normal number of failures. If your computer has less than 4 gB of RAM, I would definitely suggest trying to not have anything else running when Dirac is running. The Dirac software sends a specific explicit "disconnect" command to the XMC-1 when it finishes downloading the filters... and the XMC-1 will have to be powered down if it hasn't received this command. So, if the XMC-1 has returned to normal operation, that suggests that the Dirac software crashed at the very end of the process, after it was finished transferring the filters - so it makes sense that everything worked afterwards. Even if the XMC-1 still shows "connected", but the Dirac software has crashed, it's quite possible that the transfer process has in fact finished. (The software calculates the filters, transfers them, then verifies them. Once the transfer is complete, even if it crashes during the verify process - in which case you would have to restart the XMC-1, it's most likely that the filters have transferred successfully.) I had similar issues with DIRAC and VISTA. My machine only had 3GB of RAM and my disk was somewhat full. Couple of suggestions. First off what Keith said. Second, see if you can install it on another machine running Windows 7 or higher. Mine had the same problem until I installed Windows 7 on a new SSD and now it screams. Transferring of filters should take a couple of minutes max. There is quite a bit of calculations to complete and sync through the cloud before the filters can be generated; thus you need a more robust hardware setup to get it working consistently. Also, make sure that there are no network problems. Ideally you want everything hard wired via Cat5e cable. If you are using DIRAC via WIFI, then make sure you can see the IP of the XMC-1.
Finally, once you have things running, take a look at the miniDSP DDRC88A forum online. There is a goldmine of information on setting up, using, and tweaking DIRAC Full in addition to the information that ANSAT has already provided here. Best of luck.
