Fondled? You know this is a family forum! I've been intimate with the XMC-1 on ways that some might consider... unnatural. TMI !!!

Early photos of the XMC-1 did not have the "Gen 2" on the face plate. All XMC-1 units sold to the public to date have the "Gen 2" marking on them. My XMC-1 has the gen 1 trim and it doesnt say gen to on the front face. There is almost 3 years left on the warranty. does anyone know when they started adding the gen 2 name on the front? Based on my ERC-3 and XSP-1 it doesn't matter what colour the trim is, it's the knob that's important, is it black (= Gen 2) or silver (= Gen 1)? Cheers Gary

Also, they have the "Gen 2" black trim by default. I imagine if someone specifically requested, and possibly paid for, the "Gen 1" black trim when ordering (maybe to match "Gen 1" amps/etc. that they had purchased black Gen 1 trim for), they would swap it out at the factory. Other than that, someone would've had to swap it out themselves; production units have had black Gen 2 trim from the start.

As i said, My XMC-1 has the gen 1 trim and it doesnt say gen2 on the front face. It should say Gen 2 right under XMC-1 on the bottom right-side. If the light isn't just right, the darkened "Gen 2" blends in with the dark aluminum face plate. Flash a light directly on it and you'll be able to see there is a "Gen 2" there. If there isn't I'd be really surprised. it obvious that my eyes arent as good as they used to be, and your right, its very hard to see. The good news is that i now have a GEN 2 XMC-1!!! Im so excited. the previous owner must have installed the gen 1 trim. Sorry everyone, My mistake

I couldn't see it either in my room at night until I got out my Military Police strength flashlight! I own one of the first XMC-1's (made on Uranus) sent out from Frank Lin. It is indeed very difficult to see the "GEN 2" below the "XMC-1" on the face plate. The "XMC-1" letters are about 3 times the height of the "GEN 2" letters. An obviously bad choice on the lettering/color. Looks something like this: X M C - 1 (these letters are in white and about 3 times the height of the GEN 2 letters)) G E N 2 (these letters are in black, widely spaced and difficult to see) On the owner's manual front cover photo one can't even make out the "G E N 2". Even in this photo from the Emotiva website you can hardly see the "G E N 2".

Correct! There is no such thing as an "XMC-1 Gen1" - we skipped straight to "Gen2" because the XMC-1 started out with the "Gen2 black trim styling". To my knowledge, all XMC-1 units sold to the public have been "Gen 2" units. The XMC-1 was dubbed "Gen 2" because of the cosmetics of the case. There have been no changes to the case or the internals of the XMC-1 since its launch in 2014 to date.

Drat! I was hoping it was an XMC-1 prototype that an unnamed Emotiva employee left in a bar, and was later picked up by the audio press; disassembled, dissected, inspected, scrutinized, photographed and finally sold on the black market (the Gen 1 black trim market that is). I've thought all along that this was certainly the source of all the XMC-1 controversy of the past!

Here is a picture of a pre-production unit from 2012. I'm so glad that the XMC-1 was released as Gen 2 with all black buttons and knobs. It's so much cleaner looking IMO.

Im seeing XMC -1 's with the black gen 1 trim Black gen 1 trim? Paradox? Oxymoron? Parallel universe? Event horizon?

Im seeing XMC -1 's with the black gen 1 trim Black gen 1 trim? Paradox? Oxymoron? Parallel universe? Event horizon? They were sold as an accessory and were the same as the silver trim except that they were black. Gen 2 black trim is different.

Lets start at $2499.
